EAS

Ed Bruette, N7NVP <n7nvp@...>

Hi all,

Emergency Alert System (EAS) replaced the EBS (Emergency Broadcast
System) several years ago. Many of you know that EAS has some
significantly improved features such as, the system can be
selectively activated to alert the citizens in a fairly small
geographic area. In WA, the system will also be used to send Amber
(missing child) alerts.

My question to the group is; have any of you linked a weather radio
with EAS codes in it to your repeaters?

Thanks for your time.

73,
Ed, N7NVP

Dec 7th

Hello All -

Please be advised that I will be out of town on December the 7th and unable
to attend the WWARA Meeting scheduled for that date.

I have the reservation confirmation from the Kent F.D. Please advise to who
I should mail this.

As I end my term on the WWARA Board I want to thank you all for your support
and friendship over the years. (As you know Jon Marcinko and I started the
WWARA back in 1976) For me its time to concentrate on other things for a
while. I am presently very involved with the Society of Broadcast Engineers
(on their national board) as well as the Emergency Alert System, both here
in Washington State and on a national level. This work is in addition to my
job with Entercom....bottom line...I am buried. Therefor I will be taking
some time off from the WWARA.

I will certainly keep track of what's going on...and attend a meeting from
time to time (after all with this much of your life spent with this
organization you cannot quickly just drop out). I am always available to
anyone that needs to tap my experience or historical view of things...just
give me a call.

Thanks again to you all....its been fun!

Yes Tom I did hear about the passing of Max. I spoke with Nick Winter today
and he and I are planning on attending on Sunday.

For the rest of you...Max Bice was a pioneer in the Broadcast industry in
this area...his career began in 1938 @ KMO...later he went to the Tribune
in Tacoma where he put on the air KTNT-FM (now KBSG) in 1948 (the 3rd FM in
this market at the time) In the early 50's he put on the air KTNT-TV (now
KSTW-Ch11)...he worked as Chief Engineer and eventually was elevated to
General Manager (an un-heard move these days). After he retired from
Broadcasting...he continued to work with all kinds of communications system
under the name of MB Communications. The Broadcast bug was still in him as
he helped the Gig Harbor school dist put on the air KGHP-FM. I spoke with
Max a couple of months back. Understand that he was in a traffic accident a
few years ago and never really got back to 100%. Max was 85.

For those that knew Max...he was a 100% gentleman.

Fw: Annual elections

Ed Bruette <n7nvp@...>

WWARA members,

Dec. 7th is our annual election meeting this year.  We have several offices that need to be filled.  These include the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Board positions 1 and 3.  We need good people to fill these positions.  To review the duties and responsibilities of these offices see the By-Laws on the web at http://www.wwara.org/bylaws_2002_08_03.pdf.

After the new slate of officers is installed they need to approve chairpersons for the various bands and standing committees.  Please don’t depend on the “old” committee chairmen to carry the organization.  Jump in and help.  It is our organization and we are ALL volunteers.

If you are willing to serve or know anyone who would like to serve in any of these positions please send an email to me at n7nvp@....

Even if you are not able to run for office, come to the meeting and support the candidates you feel will do the best job during the coming year.

The meeting will be held in Kent Fire Station # 73 from 10 to 12 AM.  Sta. 73 is located at 26512 Military Road S. Kent, WA 98032-7819.

Directions:  Take the S 272nd Street exit from I-5 (Exit 146).  Go East on S 272nd and turn left at the first traffic signal, onto Military Road.  Fire Station is on the Right, about 1/2 mile North of signal.

See you there!

73,

Ed Bruette, N7NVP
Vice Chair, WWARA

Troubles with arrl.net addresses

Ed Bruette <n7nvp@...>

This is another reason to make your actual email address known to
those who you feel may send messages you don't want to miss.

**********************************
ARRL.NET Traffic Blocked by Hotmail and Juno
NEWINGTON, CT, Nov 25, 2002--Hotmail.com and Juno.com notified ARRL
headquarters notified today that they have stopped accepting e-mail messages
forwarded to users of their services from the arrl.net e-mail forwarding
server. Almost 6,000 ARRL members are affected by this action.

According to representatives of the two companies, this is, in part, their
solution to the Internet-wide problem of spam. The ARRL, through the vendor
for the arrl.net server, is currently working with both of these companies
to resolve this matter, but an immediate solution does not appear to be
imminent. Until the matter is resolved, the League cannot deliver e-mail
through the arrl.net server to users of the Hotmail or Juno e-mail services.

ARRL apologizes for the inconvenience created by their decision and will
keep you apprised of progress in the matter.

There is some concern that AOL is doing the same thing.
