Update on Sept 2019 WWARA Meeting and call for help

Kenny Richards

As reported in the meeting minutes for the Sept 2019 general meeting, Howard Wilhelm, K7UID resigned as the 440 band chair due personal reasons. Because of the timing of things, this information wasn't shared in the agenda, but was added by me during the meeting. During the meeting Steve Van Wambeck, N9VW volunteered to take the position and it was approved by the board.

I have since been reminded that while the Board of Directors is responsible for approving band chair's, it is required for the board to consider nominations from the general membership. To address this oversight, I have updated the posted minutes to reflect that Steve, N9VW was appointed the temporary 440 band chair and the board of directors will accept nominations for the next 30 days. I expect the board will select the band chair prior to the December membership meeting.

At this time I would also like to announce that Peter Dahl, WA7FUS has decided to step down as the 2m band chair. Peter was nice enough to fill in temporarily when the role became vacant several years ago, but has decided to scale back to just his other positions. So the board is also accepting nominations for the 2m band chair position.

With two critical roles being vacant at the same time, the board would like to remind the membership and repeater owners that the WWARA is run by volunteers, some of which have been in their current roles for a long time. For the continued success of the organization, one that benefits a large percentage of the hams in Western Washington, new volunteers are needed. The band chair position is actually designed to chair a committee, even though this hasn't been the situation in a while. Both the 2m and especially the 440 band chair would actually benefit from additional help due to the volume of coordinations.

Please reach out if you have any questions or are interested in volunteering.

Kenny, KU7M

Also, note the DR-1X can be set for NFM as well (12.5 KHz.) - a properly setup modem and with the repeater set to NFM should operate just fine in a 12.5 KHz. channel.

Let's not assume one incorrectly built repeater means that a correctly configured repeater cannot be built.

The PSRG DMR repeater WW7PSR was a Yaesu DR1X operating with an MMDVM. It was set for narrow band.

It was since replaced with a Motorola MTR-3000 TRBO 100 Watt repeater (Capitol Park, Seattle)

The Seattle ACS DMR repeater W7ACS is a Motorola SLR-5700 TRBO 50 Watt repeater (Lake Forest Park, Seattle)

The West Seattle DMR repeater W7AW is a Motorola SLR-5700 TRBO 50 Watt repeater (Westcrest Park, Seattle)

Sorry about the terminology.
You have an MMDVM powered Fusion Repeater in your system last information I had.
It is always up to the repeater owner to insure that the converted analog repeater is narrow band.
Thanks

How is the HM Wan progressing ?

The reason I asked about the DNR repeater is that not all repeaters are created equal.
Any junk repeater including WB can be converted now.
Buyer be ware.
Guys who don’t want to pay for s Motorola are using old repeaters with an MMDVM device.

This does not make it always a NB repeater.
It is digital si long as it isn’t used in multi mode including Analog.
Seattle ACS has such a cobble.

The system, as described in the TDS, is a multi-mode DMR and System Fusion repeater, both being 12.5 kHz digital systems. There shouldn't be any issues with it operating in these narrowband digital pairs on 70cm.
