A Little Ham History

Ran across and downloaded  "The Voices of Vanport, Radio and Flood of '48" book awhile back for future reading (which I just got to).

Noted the dedication of the book was to a SK WVDXC member.

"The Voices of Vanport is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Joe Naemura, W7CG, W7GXA. The Naemura’s were among the many Portlanders who lost their Vanport homes on Memorial Day, 1948."

An interesting read  and good coverage of the local amateur radio community during this disaster. A number of other SK WVDXC members also are discussed. Contains a good overview of how amateur radio was used during the time.

If anyone is interested in a little local ham radio history I can send you the book. The file size is around 18 MB though, lots of pictures. It might also still be available on line with a Google search. The author, Dan Howard is KA7FIP.

W7WLL, Thanks for sharing the info.  Interesting to read and I knew some of those hams at the beginning of my ham radio career.  And some not maybe the call but the name as they had moved on to 1 X 2 callsigns.
I think I may have seen that some where in the past but cannot remember where.
