wspr 'mode' versus 'code' confusion

Rob Robinett

I find the code to mode to WSPR/FST4W-xxx correlations confusing and where they are used equally confusing.

It is my understanding that 'code' is a four bit field found in the last field of each spot line uploaded to wsprnet.og.
Phil may have learned those values from Gary's posting: https://www.wsprnet.org/drupal/node/8500
where 'code' value '1' identifies both 2 minute long packets:  WSPR-2 and FST4W-120, while values 2/4/8 identify the other FST4W-xx packets.

Yes, I can do that. I'll have to QRO (turn power higher) to get some spots now that we are mid-day conditions on 20m.

I'll turn it up now, mode15 and then go to mode30, followed by modes 2 and 5.

Are the 'code' numbers truly out of order with length or is this a typo? code 2/4 seem swapped.

Hi Glenn,

Phil includes this remark in his demo of advanced filter searches which I have followed to change the 'mode/code' field on the spot lines being uploaded by N6GN/K to wsprnet.org from the current values of 2/5/15/30.

/* searching for wspr modes */
/*
code 1 => mode 2 (WSPR2, FST4W-120)
code 2 => mode 15 (FST4W-900)
code 4 =>  mode 5 (FST4W-300)
code 8 => mode 30 (FST4W-1800)
*/

But I remain confused about where 'code' is used in spot lines:  in uploaded spot, in the spots returned by the wsprnet scraper API, or both.

So to to test that these new code values of 1/2/4/8 in uploaded spot lines are appropriate in WD's uploaded spots, could you walk your transmitter through all of those modes so we can see how Phil reports your N6GN spots from N6GN/K.

Thanks,

Rob

I stumbled across this fields a few days ago and added a table to https://wspr.live/ with my findings (scroll down to "Wspr / FSt4W mode mappings"). They are based on the wsprnet.org upload php script provided by Phil and the decoder source code. I can not guarantee my table is correct but it seems plausible.
