What's happening with the Kiwi?

This has come along in development and might be something to explore https://swling.com/blog/2021/02/new-rx-888-mk-ii-sdr-receiver-on-the-way/

I had a look at old KiCad files which are as close as I've come to seeing what it takes to replicate the Kiwi. There aren't many parts really and the big stuff seems to be available at the present. However, SEEED and John got out of the business and JKS may have objections to the idea of replicating. I certainly don't want to go (back) into the business. On 1/14/23 12:42, Rob Robinett wrote:

We discussed Kiwi replacements in a WD call several months ago and it seems the RedPitaya may be the best successor. But there remain a few refinements of WD for me to complete before I can turn my SW development attention to the Pitaya. Among those refinements is restoring support for baseband audio input devices which requires a wav file recorder which creates a series of one minute long audio-sample-contiguous sav files from a baseband input device. I could use 'sox' to create those wav files, but I don't think it can synchronize with wall clock time so that each wav file starts at the second zero of each minute. Can anyone suggest an existing Linux command which would create such files? On Sat, Jan 14, 2023 at 8:16 AM wayne roth <io@...> wrote:

Production of the Kiwi has concluded, unfortunately. Here's the thread on the kiwi forum that explains what's going on: https://forum.kiwisdr.com/index.php?p=/discussion/1536/kiwisdr-production-status-and-availability/p5 |

Greetings y'all
For a long time the Kiwis have now been unavailable and the few that had them put a price tag that would make it a better deal to just buy a box of Air Spy HF. I definitely would like to go the Kiwi route in expanding here, but I guess the component shortage is at play. Do anyone out there in WD land have any idea if there are any news and/or if there are any plans to re-design the Kiwi to utilize available components. This as some suppliers such as Mouser now list the Kiwi as "discontinued by the mfg" Rolf K9DZT |
