Re: Main meetings
Hi Roger
There is a meeting on 12th March. Mark Gibbons is giving a talk on Black Holes. Apologies that the website and newsgroup are hopeless out of date. Life has been somewhat hectic. I'll try to get it up to date later today.

Main meetings
astro@...
Hi, There don't appear to be any main meetings in the next few months. Is that the case? Can I assume there is no talk on the 12th of March?

Interstellar - Lecture and Film
Redditch Astronomical Society have organised what sounds like a really good event on Monday 16th March at Artrix in Bromsgrove. Dr Elizabeth Stanway of Warwick University Astrophysics Department with give a talk on the accurate physics depicted in the movie at 6:30pm. Then the film will start at 7.30pm.
For anyone who has not seen the film Interstellar, it is a brilliant piece of 'hard' science fiction, no monsters or guns. You can find out more about this event at https://www.artrix.co.uk/whats-on/all-shows/interstellar-lecture

CANCELLED - OBSERVING EVENING 27 FEBRUARY 2020
The major traffic disruption caused by the rising river level in Worcester is making travelling through or around the city very difficult at present. This, combined with a forecast of cloud rolling in at around 9:00 pm has led us to the decision to cancel tonight's planned public observing session.
Sorry folks.

Re: Tuesday Feb 18 8pm... Thee Kings pub discussion on discovery of Pluto
It's just down the road from me, so I don't anticipate getting there being a problem.

OK 90th anniversary discovery of Pluto! Slide set ready. Been busy running my astro course on relativity, also on Tuesday..
I hope can get to Three Kings via Hanley Castle, despite Upton road closure near Upton from flooding. Trying to get to Broadheath last night proved impossible, A4103 and A449 closed. Malvern ok.

Thanks Chris I'll probably try to make this as it is just down the road from me. Just as an aside, it will be the 90th anniversary, not the 75th.

Message from John Beale of Worcester and Hereford IoP, forwarded by Chris .B
I have put a slide set together on my laptop.
.....
The Three Kings . .. Hanley Castle now has a regular programme of themed discussion evenings on occasional Tuesdays. The idea is to have informal talks and discussion about an anniversary of significant activity. It's not a formal talk and people come and go from 8pm until late. However they do like to have someone there who knows a little above the average on the topic, to give a brief overview and answer questions. Visual aids are great but don't expect to project anything.
On Tuesday 18th Feb the subject is Pluto, as it is, iirc, the 75th anniversary of its discovery. I have been asked if any of the IOP local committee, friends, or members of WAS would be able to show up and provide some level of "expert" knowledge. Indeed several people could go.
Let me know if you think you can help, but the event will happen anyway, so you can just show up after 8pm..
Regards
John
