WAS newsgroup is moving

Michael Morris

Following many months/years of intermittent problems with the email, messaging, calendar and events reminder systems of our Yahoo newsgroup we've decided to migrate the newsgroup over to a new newsgroup service called Groups.io.

Over the next few days you should receive one of more mails from groups.io telling you that we are migrating the newsgroup.  Please read the emails carefully.  Unlike with the Yahoo system, there is no need to register with Groups.io.

Our Yahoo newsgroup will remain active for a while whilst we bed in the new groups.io newsgroup and then become dormant.

Once the new newsgroup is up and running we'll give you more information.

Also, we are starting to resurrect our long unused our Facebook page at

https://www.facebook.com/worcesteras/

Re: WAS Yahoo Newsgroup problems.

Michael Morris

Okay.
I've found a clone of Yahoo newsgroups called Groups.io.  It was set up by an ex-yahoo employee to provide a version of newsgroups that actually works!

There are certain data protection issues we will have to explore when setting up the new group, but it looks promising.  I'm presently setting up a test group to explore how it works and check it is what we need.

Hi Mike,

I don’t ‘do’ Facebook but belong to another professional group who correspond using Google Groups; we’ve never had any problems.

Try https://support.google.com/groups/answer/2464926?hl=en

All best

Hi Michael,

I have found Yahoo a bit cumbersome in the past (and a bit clunky) - so would welcome a new solution.

However, I’m not on Facebook (there may also be others in the group) so wouldn’t benefit from that; thus the best method for me for now is email.

Thanks for all the great work and kind regards,

Robert Lyall.

We apologise for the continuing problems with the calender, forum and messaging functions of this Yahoo newsgroup.  There doesn't seem to be any cure for Yahoo seeming indifference to sorting out problems with their newsgroup system, so we are now actively investigating alternative platforms to provide all or some of these functions.

At present, the next best alternative solution seems to be a Facebook Group, but there may be other options.

We'll keep you posted (if this ******* system will actually send messages!!!)
