To tie in with these broadcasts we will be holding three nights of public observing sessions at Worcester Countryside Centre on the 18th, 19th and 20th January.

We will keep you posted with more details in due course.

Re: OBSERVING NIGHT IS ON - THURSDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER

Andrew Buckland

Last night's bonus observing evening was truly magnificent.

Around 15 members arrived at Crown East and no fewer than six telescopes, ranging from an enormous 11inch Celestron to more modest reflectors, refractors and maks.

A wide range of objects were observed including M101 and the rapidly dimming supernova, old favourites such as M11, M32, M39, M56, M81, M82 and the slightly more esoteric NGC6934.

The good conditions also meant that the double cluster and M31 were easy naked eye targets and the milky-way itself was prominent. Jupiter rose above the trees and three of its moons were visible along with clear banding and cloud detail.

With seeing and transparency both good it was an ideal opportunity to test out the society's new integrating camera. Mounted on both a 6 inch refractor and the mighty 11 inch Celestron clear colour views were obtained of both M57 and M27 (where the central star was an easy object). This camera is a true asset to the society.

Due to the remarkably mild weather observing continued well passed 11pm where tiredness rather than cold conditions provided the impetus for observers to start to wend their way home.

OBSERVING NIGHT IS ON - THURSDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER

Michael Morris

Tonight's observing night at Crown East is on. We start to set up after 8:30pm. If you are arriving after 9.00pm, please turn off your lights immediately after parking as the glare effect other's night vision.

See you there.

Re: Extra Observing Night - Thursday 29th September

Hi Anthony.
I am bringing a 7aH power supply along tonight to power the video astronomy set up - it has 3 outputs, so this may be suitable. Obviously, if someone could bring along a separate power supply, that would be ideal.

Whilst dew isn't a common problem at Crown East, we do sometimes get it. As a protemp measure, a piece of cardboard cut to the right size (length at least as long as the diameter of the mirror) and held on with a bungee cord can be pretty effective.

See you tonight.

Re: Sky at night September issue

Andrew Buckland

All,

I have just phoned Sky at Night magazine, given them my subscriber number and they are going to send me a copy of the September issue. According to their system the magazine was dispatched.
I also mentioned the larger problem, the fact that most (if not all) of us hadn't received this issue and the person was going to inform her manager about it.

Clear Skies.

SUMMER STAR PARTY - TONIGHT

Michael Morris

Despite the less then ideal weather forecast for tonight (cloudy with some clear spells), we are going ahead with tonight's star party. From our experience, Marion's House seems to have it's own unique weather system!

If the gods do conspire against the best laid plans of mice and men, fear not - we still have tea, coffee and cakes and a stimulating little presentation on Star Parties for your pleasure and amusement.

See you there.
