flmsg compression

The message window of Flmsg has a check box for compression.  Why would you ever turn this off?
In flmsg config, personal data, files there is a check box for "do not compress file".  What would you not compress the file?
Why are the 2 apparently contradictory check boxes?

Bob,

The compression in Flmsg isn't always that good. I have seen messages where the "compressed" message is larger than the "uncompressed" one.

I have seen that happen with short messages.
But now it gets worse. I have seen a message get completely distorted by the compression.
That would tend to say never use compression.
It would be nice if someone who really understands this would explain it to us all.
