Cable Television
Has anyone considered adding a new feature consisting of speech to text function to FLDIGI or N1MM?
I think that would be way cool! Tnx 73 WA3TD |

It would be possible to do this, but I doubt you'd do it with less than a powerful processor.
Where i worked we used Nuance Speech Objects; they are the basis for the SIRI recognition engine at Apple. You'd have to build a recognition dictionary of commonly used ham radio words, the phonetic alphabet, perhaps even a few call signs you'd expect to hear. Another alternative to Nuance's product is AT&T's Watson (yes, it has the same name as the IBM supercomputers). I do not know if they would license it. I have no idea what the per seat licensing charges would be. Bob R - N7WY |

Thanks for getting back to me. I beleive text to speach would be a great enhancement and open doors for physically challenged hams. Younger hams may not realize yet what impairments await them as they age. Being able to control the rig and use CW, RTTY and digital modes via speech would help many hams remain active in the hobby as they age and open the door to other physically challenged individuals. I would hope that someone would take on this challenge allowing it to become the next great enhancement. Thank you again for your response! Ask, and it shall be given you;
seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
For every one that asketh receiveth
3rd party software 3rd party software for use with fldigi etal [links to -->] Skip Teller's, KH6TY, talker program for windows only: FldigiTalk TO INSTALL FLDIGITALK YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING IN THIS ORDER: 1. Run MSagent.exe 2. Run spchapi.exe 3. Run tv-enua.exe 4. Copy or move invisible.acs into \Windows\msagent\chars 5. Right-click FligiTalk.exe, select "Send To" and then "Desktop (create shortcut)". To run FlDigiTalk, just double-click the Desktop shortcut. Then run Fldigi. You can minimize FlDigitalk to the system Tray by clicking the minimize button and it will continue to work. To bring it back, click the lips icon in the Tray. If you exit Fldigi before exiting FldigiTalk, Windows will generate a message, "Asynchronous socet error 10053". Ignore this message and click OK to make the message go away. To avoid seeing this harmless message, just exit FlDigiTalk before exiting Fldigi by clicking the "X" in the upper right corner. EQUIPMENT SETUP: It is STRONGLY recommended that a second sound card, or a USB sound device, be used for Fldigi so the onboard sound system can be used for FlDigiTalk and other Windows sound applications and Windows sounds. This will prevent the loud transmit audio from being heard, but will let the FlDigiTalk speaking to be heard. To select a different sound system for Fldigi, in Fldigi, go to Configure, Soundcard, and select the name of the second sound system under Capture and Playback. Then click Save and then click Close. Skip created FLDIGITALK for a blind ham. 73, David, W1HKJ |

A few years ago I used Microsoft speech to text to convert my voice to text in FLdigi. It worked great especially when someone asks a question that needs a qick answer. In operation you had to click in the text window of FLdigi and just speak into the microphone. I did have to manually click on the on screen xmit but to start and end the transmit.
I quit using because I got a new PC and just didnt bother to redo the program. If you are interested let me know and I will set it up again and send you the settings I used. |
