I’ve had similar problems with JTAlert. Windows insists that it is a Trojan, and you have to go into Defender and allow it through - Although last time Windows updated our shack computer, Defender took a scorched earth policy and deleted JTAlert and it’s install program. And just to keep me “safe”, it deleted everything in the Downloads folder. Redownloading in the normal sane manner wasn’t working, so I had to turn off all security, then download it and allow it, then reinstall, then and only then turn defender back on. Foolishness to bypass all security to allow an innocent program to install in th ename of security. I hope we don’t have to start doing the same with fldigi. But I would like to ask - how do the people that run health and welfare deal with Windows? I’ve had updates nuke sound card drivers and USB serial drivers on our Icoms. I actually had to kill Windows update service in order to insure that radios that worked one day would work the next. To me Update Russian roulette fals virus flags and determining the functioning of health and welfare services is 100 percent unacceptable. - 73 Mike N3LI - On Sep 28, 2020, at 10:03 AM, Dave <daveb@...> wrote: |

That's why I still run Windows 7 on my shack computer. And my laptop is now a Linux machine. Years ago I stopped automatic updates. Installed only the ones I felt I needed. Now almost no updates to deal with.

As I mentioned in the other thread my concern is that Kaspersky identified the specific Trojan downloader it identified when it quarantined fldigi 4.2.14/60 and that the subsequent disinfection process actually located and deleted a Trojan in the system memory. I switched to Kaspersky from Bitdefender a few years ago because it found and cleared malware that Bitdefender missed.

This very well may be a false positive but I’m going to err on the side of caution because Kaspersky is ok with the last release version of fldigi. This type of analysis is well beyond my level of intelligence to deal with. Mark W2MB On Sep 28, 2020, at 10:17 PM, Fred K2DFC via groups.io <k2dfc@...> wrote: |

Roger that. On my own computers, I run MacOS or W7. My “restaurant wireless laptop that I use for public wifi” is running Linux. Unfortunately, there are computers I have to deal with that are not mine that run W10. Ptui! I’ve disabled Windows update service in group policy, but I’ll bet that whenever I do update them, Microsoft will turn that back on.

It was a happy day when they brought out SmartSDR for MacOS. Yeah, it was 150 dollars for Mac versus free for PC, but I love that virtual 100 percent uptime. I woulda paid upwards of 500 dollars for it. - 73 Mike N3LI - - Michael Coslo - Frequency Coordinator, Beaver Stadium 814-404-3991 mjc5@... mjcn3li@...
