Re: Fldigi not following my transceiver

Very strange.

Try unplugging and reinserting the serial cable from the radio and the computer. Try the initialize again. Anything this time?

You say that you’re using Hamlib, but checking here I don’t see the 7300 in the list of rigs supported. What do you have selected in the Rig box?

I believe it would solve a lot of issues for you just to use RigCat.

Go the the Rig Cat page in fldigi Rig Control configuration.

Click on the dropdown list for the Rig Description File. Do do you see the 7300 in the list? If yes, is the checkbox at the top of the window “Use Rig Cat” checked?

If the 7300 is not in the dropdown list then go to: https://sourceforge.net/projects/fldigi/files/xmls/icom/ and click on the IC-7300.XML file name and download it to your computer. Once you have it move the file to the “rigs” directory under fldigi.files directory. Close fldigi and reopen it to the Rig Control config page for RigCat. Select the file and set the Device contents to the correct Com port and set the correct baud rate. Verify that the Use RigCat box is checked at the top of the window.

The config page should look like the screen shot below except for the Com port and baud rate you have set.

Now click Initialize. It should turn from red to black to indicate completion and you should have connection to the radio.

Working now?

Check that the com port is correct, baud rate is the same as the radio(CI-V USB Baud Rate) then click Initalize. What happens?

Hi Renee,

First of all I would recommend getting the GA release of fldigi-4.0.17. 4.0.17.65 is a test version.

Can fldigi control the radio at all, i.e. can you change frequency in fldigi and have the radio change to match?

First things to check are that the USB-Uart driver is installed in Windows then verify the baud rate in your rig setup matches what is set on the radio.

Let us know what you find.

I’m glad it all worked out for you. Flrig is a great program and when the new release is out it will be even better. Keep watching the mail list for the announcement.

Hope to work you one of these days.

HI Cliff,

First I apologize because I ran into an error in reporting that I had problems in regulating the power...

The problem was that I did not understand that the slider concerned governs the respective Hardware knob RF / SQL and if the slider is placed at the
center or at zero the squelch is completely closed so at the start of the program the radio was silenced and the RF / SQL bar is placed at full scale.

Now I place the slider almost to the maximum so the squelch is always open and the problem is solved.

The program now seems perfect with my ICOM 756PRO, it handles a lot more commands than I expected, obviously with Fldigi but also with the WSJT-X programs.

Thank you for teaching me how to center stations in QSO with mine frequency.

Thanks again.

Hi Renzo,

Super! Glad to hear it is working for you.

The power out issue you mention seems rather strange. Have you confirmed it on the radio power out meter or is it just Flrig that is showing that?

Another question - are you always operating in the center of the passband? I ask, because, if not, a signal  significantly to one side of center will have a different  power output because of the transmit filtering. See if the power changes if you always work in the center of the passband (or always at the same place on the waterfall). The passband center usually is 1500hz for a 3000hz waterfall. If you don’t already do it, select the signal you want to respond to then click the QSY button to center the signal in the passband(you can right click the QSY button to undo the last QSY action). Fldigi will automatically adjust the frequency to accomplish that. Make sure you have set the fldigi config/Misc/Sweetspot/ to the values you want for your radio. I put RTTY and PSK etc. both at 1500 for my IC-7300.

Let us know how it goes.

The proposal reported finally worked here in my system.
Flrig connects both IC756PRO and Fldigi and IC756PRO.
All commands work except for the Split command.
With the switch A<->B I have never had problems.
There are some problems with the regulation of the power that sometimes suddenly rises to the maximum without a specific reason.
Incredibly, I see the radio signal bar working that I thought was not possible on this radio.

I confirm that I have used the recommended data except port 7, because I do not have port 4 available.

Many thanks,

Cecil,

Just heard from Jim Haynes, another 756Pro user that has flrig working for him.

For testing try his settings in the transceiver setup and see if it helps. (I would record the settings you have now so you can go back to them if you wish)

His settings are

Rig  IC756PRO
Ser Port  COM4   (this changes sometimes)
Baud 19200
2 stop bits
echo
PTT with CAT (uncheck the RTS and DTR boxes)
Retries 1
Retry interval 2
Cmds 0
Poll Interval 200
Byte Interval 0
0x5C  CI-V addr

I asked him about the VFO swapping and haven’t heard back yet, but I’m assuming it was working for him unless I hear differently.

Are you running Windows 10? Google "Windows 10 update sound problems". Here's an example:

Make sure that CI-V Transceive is OFF in the 718 (page 47 in manual).

I suggest leaving the radio and a fixed baud rate. You could try a higher rate, but that shouldn’t be the root of the problem although it may help.

Have you tried checking the RTS/CTS box. I know it doesn’t come up by default, but it might help. I also don’t remember if the 718 has a setting to turn on echoing of commands. My 7300 does have that setting and I need it on to work reliably. You might have a look and see if that helps. Baring any progress we will need to check some debug logs and get Dave involved. At least it works after the init, but it still shouldn’t get the timeouts.
