Hi Bert and Dave, I've always assumed Under GPL if you make your software publicly available you have to make any source based on GPL code available. Lawyers for a company I used to work for thought GPL contaminated all code we wrote if one part of it was based on GPL. 73 Phil GM3ZZA

Thats the problem CLiff I cant even get to the config file. I got COM 6 as rig control with no other programs running. Like I said com 6 is for rig control. The config file go to abt 3/4 and reports not responding. Renaming the perf files didn't do the job. Thanks for trying to help. But I am at loss right now. Done everything possible and no go. Using a Kenwood 2000 rig control com 6. Yes there is a serial port to the rig. Like I said ACLOG and Dx Commander works fine.

Actually what you report is good news if this is after renaming the prefs files. Close the error popup and open the config dialog. Setup the Transceiver config elements, mainly the Rig Name, Serial Connection and Baud rate (the defaults for the other settings are normally fine) and hit init. If the serial connection is good the init button should change from red to black and the little diamond beside the button should turn green. Be sure you have the correct baud rate set for what is set on the rig. The normal flrig GUI should then popup. Flrig looks like a small program, but it’s doing a lot of talking with the rig and fldigi so there’s quite a bit going on behind the scenes. I don’t think most people realize what has to all take place to have it do what seems like a simple thing. I just realized I didn’t ask you what rig you are using and what the serial connection(s) is(are) between the computer and the rig. If we have to come down to renaming the flrig.files directory just make it flrig.files1. That will cause flrig to start totally from scratch.

Dave,
I won't actually be stealing any code. It's been at least 2 decades (really!) since I wrote a line of C++ and I really made little sense of what I saw, hence my reference to "magic numbers." Thanks for the insight into the process though. Your quick explanation of the "linear interpolation between measured values" gave me far more insight into the process than I'd been able to dig out by reading the code. Anyway, the idea of "publishing" my code makes my blood run cold, aside from the fact that i can't imagine anyone wanting to use a product of my very idiosyncratic coding style. When I was working, it was made very clear that I would never be asked (or even allowed) to have anything to do with designing user interfaces. I occasionally forget what some of the fields on the tables mean in my own software. -- 73, Bert - W0RSB

Hi Dave,
Is COM5 a valid port, just not the rig? I’ve seen similar behaviour with my IC-7300 if power is connected but the rig not switched on. The COM port is evaluated by Windows as the USB serial port is powered but the microcontroller in the rig is not, so CAT doesn’t respond.

Well CLiff I have dont about everything. Shut down all programs
using COM 6. Rebooted, reinstalled about every thing possible.
Renamed a couple on perf files as a fellow suggested. When I open
FLRIG it gets about 3/4 th of the way and stops and says no
response. What do u suggest the flrig .files name?? This is such a small program I can't understand why it doesn't work. Thanks for the help.

Just to be sure I’m understanding what is happening - I’m I take it that flrig is not starting at all, i.e., when you click the icon nothing happens. If this is not the case please be more specific as to what your are seeing/not seeing so I know what we’re dealing with. I suggest you reboot your computer and without starting any other program, with the radio on and connected to the computer, try to start flrig. Does it start now? If not then rename the flrig.files directory to something else and try to start flrig with nothing else running. Please let me know what the results are.

Still trying to get FLRIG to load. My rig control is com 6. I don't have any other program using com6. I rarely get a message ommsay com 6 not found. I know it is there because to works on ACLOG and DX Commder.
I simple program should not that hard to load. I did change 2 of the perf files as a gentlemen suggested. Still no load. Any thoughts ? Thanks 73 NU4N Dave

Independent of transceiver
the returned CAT values for smeter, swr and alc are all
converted to a 0...100 range such that the converted values
lie on a scale associated with the respective user interface
meter display. Power is left as reported and the meter
display logic limits the scaled value;
Where ever possible a cooperating user has measured return CAT values for either measured or transceiver displayed value for each of the 4 metering functions. The conversion is then accomplished using linear interpolation between measured values. It may be necessary to perform a conversion on the power scale if the transceiver report is not well behaved. You are free to use any of the flrig code for your work providing you comply with the requirements of the General Public License, which basically requires that all derivative work be published as GPL and made freely available to anyone who requests the code. 73, David, W1HKJ On 7/28/21 1:35 PM, Bert - W0RSB wrote:

I have a Yaesu FTdx10 and have written a simple program to display a handful of rig properties that I want to keep track of while I'm operating. I've found that the numeric CAT values for power (RM5) and SWR (RM6) don't directly show the actual values. It looks like the value for ALC (RM4) might not be directly usable either.
Someone in the FTdx10 groups.io forum suggested that I look at FLRIG for some insight to correctly displaying these values. It appears that these CAT values of the FTdx10 are the same as for the FTdx101d, and I was able to run FLRIG against my FDdx10 with no problem. Looking at src/rigs/yaesu/FTdx101D.cxx in the source code of FLRIG, I see that the CAT values are processed using some "magic numbers" to produce values suitable for display. Before I go ahead and steal the code behind these magic numbers, if this doesn't involve revealing state secrets, I'd really appreciate it if someone could explain the reasoning behind the way the processing for these three values was developed. -- 73, Bert - W0RSB

Thanks again Cliff for pointing me in the right direction. Because of the nature of the problem and the way things were working
I suspected it had to be something I was not paying enough attention to in the setup of the software. I did have a messy driver installation and that might have been complicating things too. That's all cleaned up now, I learned a lot and I would like to thank you and others who provided me with various ideas and things to check/verify. Thanks ... Dennis ... AI6R

In case you are not successful playing around witht he PTT config then one long shot is to rename the flrig config directory and do a fresh setup. This is in C:\Users\<your login name>\flrig.files. Rename the directory to something like flrig.files1 and then start flrig. Sometimes a new config will fix something that got corrupted in the config.

If that doesn’t work then the archive version of flrig-1.3.52 is here: http://www.w1hkj.com/files/archives/Windows/flrig-1.3.52_setup.exe and you can try that.
