All of the flrig settings are saved in the <xcvr_name>.prefs file in flrig.files.  You do not need to make any special effort to save the settings.  They are restored upon new execution.

Hi Dave

Thanks very much for the detailed information / checks - very helpful indeed

So I now have it all working - fantastic, I am so pleased.
Radio settings all OK

FLRIG settings needed adjustments as noted below:
(I have also attached pictures showing the new working settings for information.)

Yes these are the correct ports as above

  •
  • the CAT (enhanced) port should be set up for the same baud as flrig, 38400
    • set baud at both transceiver and flrig to 38400
    • RTS/CTS disabled
    •

I had this enabled

    • on flrig PTT-Generic tab, select PTT via CATI

I did not have this selected
PTT via DTR ONLY enabled (not via RTS as well)
Deselect PTT in CW mode

    •
    • initialize flrig if the button turns red
  • test to insure that flrig control is working for
    • vfoA frequency control
    • vfoA mode control
    • vfoA bandwidth control
    • PTT works from flrig front panel
    • repeat for vfoB selected
  • using vfoA, set transceiver mode to RTTY

Assuming all of the above is OK

Yes all above OK except as noted

  • configure the FSK panel
    • COM7
    • inverted - disabled
    •

I had this enabled

    •
    • 1.5 stop bits - enabled
    •

I had this disabled

    •
    • FSK Keyline - select the correct control pin, RTS or DTR for FSK.  Usually one is for CW keying and the opposite for FSK keying
    •

FSK Keyline Left as DTR

(which is the same as selected in Radio Settings)
COM PORT 7 left as is - this is the "standard port"

    •
    • connect to the port if not already connected
  • press the Xmt/Rcv button on the flrig FSK panel
    • the tranceiver PTT should engage
    • FSK idle (diddles) should be transmitted (possibly heard in the transceiver monitor) the PTT should remain engaged and you should have no CW type keying of the tranceiver.
    • IF NOT then you probably have reversed the CW/FSK use of the RTS/DTR pins, correct and repeat this test
  • create a macro button string: "[RYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRYRY DE G0VSS K]"
  • try sending the RYRY macro
  •

All above carried out and tested OK. I also checked the rig internal FSK signals and they sounded exactly the same, I appreciate its only a very rough test, but will be doing some live tests shortly.

I wondered if there was some way to preserve the Flrig settings (I do have a way to save separate Fldigi settings) ?

I now need to get Fldigi working with Flrig - I should be able to do this - will it be OK to post a help on the group ?

Thanks again for all your help, I can see that it may have taken a bit of time, but I am so pleased you were able to help.
Have a great Christmas break and New Year - if we do not speak again !

Also Jon, make sure the two numbers on the left side below the waterfall are somewhere around -5 and 70. You can adjust them to your liking when you have a good waterfall, but for starters try these numbers. They should show a waterfall since you indicate you have a good signal into fldigi.

Hi Dave
I hope you had a good Christmas and thanks for the detailed information and updates.

I have been having a go at getting the FSK to work..

I am just using Flrig (the last update version) to get the FSK working.
I have adjusted the Radio Settings as you explained and set up the config and for the CAT and the FSK line. So far with the current settings which are attached, I get a signal output that I recognise as the "Diddle" when I press the Xmit / Rx on the FSK Keying window, but I can also hear the fast relay switching as if I am sending cw, in addition I found that when I disconnect the FSK config from COM7, I still get the same - has no effect. When I press the TX/RX the "keying" stops but a single tone stays on until I Connect and then Disconnect. It looks like it may be using the CAT COM port ? So that is as far as I have got to, I guess I am near to having it sorted but it looks like there is something obvious I have not done / done incorrectly - probably the effect of the turkey and wine ++ hi
I have attached:
Config Windows x 2 (one showing rig config and the other showing PTT Generic config)
Screen capture of radio settings
PDF of the ports information from the Yaesu CAT Operation which may be of help.

I know the FTDX10 reasonably well and I think I have the settings correct, but it could be something obvious that I have overlooked ?
Of course its not urgent, I think you deserve a relaxing holiday !!

Appreciate your help

Decoding In Yellow Box But No Waterfall Signal Traces #fldigi

I am starting up a fresh install of FLDIGI on Windows 11 PC.  I have audio in from my RTLSDR radio dongle with a strong known signal via VB Cable.  In FLDIGI I can see the signals being decoded in the yellow section of the screen.  Down below that however there are no signal traces on the waterfall.  I have a green diamond on the lower right section of the screen and my squelch is set to zero.  I also have a -20 on the green signal strength indicator bar in the middle bottom of the screen.  How do I activate the waterfall?  The frequency I have input in the upper left hand box matches my tuned frequency.  Thanks!  AB9NN

Hi Cliff

Thanks very much for your reply - its very kind of you to get back to me especially so on Christmas Day, I really did not expect anyone to get back to me so quickly, its really very much appreciated.

I will get to trying this out and I will let you know the outcome and I am sure that there will be many others using the FTDX101 as well as the FTDX10 who will want to take advantage of the FSK feature option. Just out of interest the Winkey3 IC now also has FSK capability, but I guess you know this as it mentions Fldigi in their manual.

I have just noticed that Dave has also replied - so to both of you my sincere thanks and wish you both a great Christmas.

I see that Allan AE2V looks like he will also be interested in using FSK so perhaps we could compare notes !

Thanks again
Please take care and keep safe

FTdx10 RTTY / FSK

Dave

flrig 1.4.4 (http://www.w1hkj.com/files/flrig) fully supports the FTdx10 including FSK keying via USB serial port DTR/RTS signal lines

CW and/or FSK signals can be generated directly from within flrig or coordinated with fldigi.

FTdx10 manual, page 65

page 87

You will probably have to experiment to discover the virutal serial port to use.  The FT-991A has two USB serial ports.  The primary for CAT signals and the second for auxiliary control such as DTR/RTS CW or FSK keying.

Ray,

Dave just released flrig 1.4.4 so get that. I noticed there there is no RigCat file for the FTDX10 so your only option at the moment is to use flrig Keyer for FSK directly to the radio. You can still receive the RTTY in fldigi. You just have to have the rig in RTTY mode and fldigi also in RTTY to receive.

Assuming the rig itself supports it, you can do FSK RTTY from fldigi or flrig. Using fldigi you need to use RigCat rig control at this point in time and the latest Alpha version, 4.1.20.36. Get it here: www.w1hkj.com/alpha/fldigi/

You may have to do some setup in the rig’s menus as well to select to use RTS (default) or DTR control and also the Mark freq. you want to use.

In flrig likewise you need the alpha version: www.w1hkj.com/alpha/flrig/ and then select the Keyer from the menu and also do any rig setup necessary.

Hope this helps.

I, too, have a FTdx10 and would like to use fldigi with.  The FTdx10 has a RTTY mode.  Does fldigi work with that?  I'm thinking that would be the optimal situation if it does.

I have the USB cable connection between my computer and the FTdx10 working with WSJT-X and N3FJP logging software.  So I do know that I have both communication with the radio working.

Thanks!  Merry Christmas everyone!!  I hope you all get that new piece of gear!!!
