Looks and sounds more like FT8.

Try downloading a fresh copy of the IC-7300.xml file.

http://www.w1hkj.com/xmls/icom/

Turn the rig on, start Fldigi, click "Configure", "Rig Control", select the "RigCat" tab, click "Open" under "Rig description file", browse to the new file, then highlight and click "Open".  Make sure that "RigCat" at the top of the page is checked and that the correct COM port is selected in the "Device" box, then click "Initialize".  If rig control is successful, click "Save", then "Close".

I may have some ideas for you. I may have just gone through something similar.

I'm on my way to a drill and don't have time to explain much, but look for

Windows Update 1803 privacy settings, there's some notes on this group. Essential go into audio settings and "allow" programs to use audio. The new update locked this down for some folks.

My thing, that was weird, was the update also "checked" the enhancements checkbox on my mic driver, not speaker driver. Go in and uncheck it.

Note its on the recording part of the drive and on the advanced tab.

The interesting thing is, WSJT-X and N4PY are still working fine after the update -- same COM port, same USB-to-serial cable, same rig. The symptom under Flrig is that the Peg cycles rapidly between receive and transmit, about 2 flips per second, as though Flrig and the Peg cannot complete a fundamental handshake. I have verified that the FTDI-provided driver for the COM port is still in use. If it weren't, or if the new privacy settings were screwed up, WSJT-X shouldn't work but it does. Flrig version is 1.3.39. I have tried uninstalling it (along with deleting the flrig.files directory), then reinstalling. No difference.

Pointers appreciated!

newbie question - decoding gibberish

Mike KK7ER

Hi.  I've read through the documentation and watched a few videos.
I'm acoustically coupling my laptop headset microphone to my Kenwood TS-130S.
I tuned to 14.070 and can see signals streaming by on the waterfall display.
The width of the signal seems to correspond to BPSK-63 so I chose that mode (although BPSK-31 behaves the same).
I turned off AGC on the PC audio capture path.
But i cannot decode any meaningful text -- just seemingly random characters.
I'm probably doing something stupid but have not yet figured it out.
I'm attaching a video and would like to get feedback from an experience user.
Thanks!

Mike

You're welcome Noel.  I read your QRZ page with much interest.  You have me on age by 8 years, but our hairlines are nearly identical :-D.  Now that you have rigcat working with the xml file, you might want to try flrig with your FT897D.

This the latest development cycle version
