Problem with many back issues of Handwoven magazine

Jocelyn Blouin

Yesterday, while trying to consult an issue from 1985, I realized that there was a problem accessing many back issues of Handwoven. Strangely, I can still read some of them, especially the newer ones, but the older they are, the less success I have reading them. I get the thumbnails at the bottom of the screen, but the pages do not appear on the main screen. I tried with different browsers, on different computer and different operating systems, on my wi-fi, on the my cellphone internet. No matter what, it's always the same issues that do not work.

I started to take note of the ones that don't work for me. I stopped with January/February 2006 because after that, very few open.

I wonder if this is a known and widespread problem?

As I understand, access to online back issues is available for an additional subscription: Do you subscribe to the the “All Access” option?

Jocelyn Blouin

Yes, I have an all access subscription. As I said, I can read some issues here and there, but the majority of what is prior 2010 I can not.

I just tried some back issues and cannot seem to open anything earlier than about 2010. I know I was able to access older ones before as I saved several issues to my Archives and now I can’t open those either. I will try to find a way to email Handwoven about this.

Thank you Sue Anne. Now at least I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem.

I contacted Handwoven magazine the other day about issues with online access through Zinio.  They recommended using the Handwoven app instead.  I downloaded it (I’m using an iPad), and the app works very well.  I assume but cannot verify if there is an app for android.

All issues are there from 1979 to the present.

Yes, I have the android version which usually works well, but I cannot access any issues except the most recent one today.

Also can't get to the text only option

Thank you. This works with text mode as suggested by Zinio, but only with problematic issues newer than January/February 2011. Past that point, the text mode is not available.

I found the application on the Apple App Store. It is simply called Handwoven. On my iPhone, this app doesn't completely fix the problem because the 2011 and older issues don't show up either.

I have not been able to find anything from Long Thread Media on the Android side.

Good morning,
This morning I received a reply from Zinio and am pasting it in here in case anyone wants to contact this person with a request for a specific Handwoven issue while they are working on the problem.

Hi, all. I passed this along to Long Thread Media. They’ll get their tech team working on fixing this. In the meantime, they said anyone having an issue can touch with them at support@... . I hope they have a fix for us soon.

Best,

FYI I started writing them on March 3 and kept pinging them and they kept saying it would fixed soon. Last week I received the message below and I just checked and it appears to all be working now.

Thank you.  However, I tried to open the Jan/Feb 2009 issue, and I could not.  Also, could not view Mar/Apr 2009 either.

Thank you,
