McMooran Yarn Balance Variability
lvnovak1
Hi. I've used my McMooran yarn balance in the past and it's been pretty accurate. This week I've been looking at some mystery yarn and the balance is reading too long, even for yarn that I know. It seems about 10% high. Most of what I'm looking at is wool, but I just measured 3/2 perle cotton at about 1400 ypp instead of 1260. The humidity is low, being inside in winter. Is it possible to have this much variation just due to that?? Seems odd ...
Thanks,
Larry

The FTC allows 10% variation in yarn measurements on the label due to
climatic/tension variation involved in packaging yarn.
SO - your low humidity could definitely be a factory.

One thing you could do is a little experiment with the yarn. Dry the yarn completely, may want to set it in the oven on low heat for awhile and take the measurement, then soak the yarn, making sure it has good absorption and repeat the measurement.
