Humidifiers

Does anyone use a humidifier in studio? If so what brand , cool or warm. I know size depends on area but do you undersize?or oversize ?I live in high desert and it is very very dry. perry |

I live in the desert too, but I’ve not found a need for a humidifier in the studio. What problems are you having?

Hi Perry, I don't use a humidifier here in Bend, but I rarely use linen. I do use Laura Fry's method of a humidor for weft sometimes - often for tencel or other unruly fibers. It is essentially a large enough container with a lid with water at the bottom and a smaller container inside to hold the filled bobbins. I often put them in overnight but a few hours is enough. I use a cheap vaporizer from CVS / Walgreens. It works great. I do use a lot of linen, and weave on a Scandinavian loom. I put it inside the loom so the humidity goes straight onto the warp, bit doesn’t get wet.

It depends on what type of yarn I’m using and the weather that day. Yesterday I was spinning some alpaca and really needed it. Fluffy fiber everywhere. I was too lazy to go get it - but it would have helped. I use mine cold. And I haven’t done any research but I think just about any type would work. Virginia

I am using tencel, silk and ready to put a linen warp next.
The warp yarn seems to fly around abit and definitely has static as I dress the loom but seems manageable. The weft yarns have static as well (clings to the warp) and I think it is causing a bit more draw in that I did not seem to have when I wove in Delaware and Virginia. Sometimes I get a bit of a bubble in the weft when I beat it. I have tried cowboy magic on warp as I weave which helps a bit. But seems a small humidifier (vaporizer ) inside the loom(megado) would help. Perry Sent from my loom |

I traveled back in the Midwest last week when it was -5 degrees and REALLY dry. Really static-y.
I remember we used to use a spray product called Static Guard in the days of wearing nylons with a silk or poly slip underneath a skirt or dress - and it worked pretty well to keep things from sticking together. I have no idea what chemicals were in it. Did anyone use that on their warps in the past? Is that product still around? |

Static Guard is still available… I used to use on my machine quilting… works well on static but be aware it tends to be heavily fragranced…
Try Walmart to buy… kathyo |

Hi Everyone and Sally O
You can still buy (Static Guard). Check out Wal-Mart/Target the two box stores sell it.
