Sara von Tresckow

Did anyone else here sign up for the ZOOM sessions from this conference? Was
scheduled for St. Petersburg prior to Ukraine invasion and is now happening
in Lodz, Poland this weekend. The theme is CODES in textiles with speakers
from around the globe. The sessions happen in the middle of the night here
in Wisconsin, but there are several very interesting topics.

Hi Everyone & Sara

I am a night owl I would like it greatly if you would send me the link to me when you have time

What till I tell you this I was going to call you. Remember I told you about the guy that I rent the upper apartment to and he is a computer geek. I am not too sure if I did or not. Well anyways his name is Eric, I gave Eric some money for Christmas. This past Friday Eric told me and showed me what he did with the many I gave him. Eric bought a printer and he showed me the first thing he made. Eric knows I shop at Aldi food store so me made me a key that I don't need to use a quarter to get a shopping cart I just laughed. Then he showed me a cat that he had made. Then Eric said I wonder if there is any that for weaving that can be made.

Eric can make all of the parts need to make a rigged heddle loom and reeds of different sies and also part reeds the loom is 15 inches wide as well as slim boat shuttle and bobbins for the shuttle

I said you are kidding Eric said no. I am making something right now. Eric said come on up I will show you. I just about feel over Eric said I can make anything out of plastic that can be as strong as steel. I can make things out of heat sensing plastic. I can make you a loom that will change colors when you used it Eric said I will make you a loom. I said no, I have enough looms.

Sara, it was fun to see, I enjoyed watching you weave on your computer driven loom better.

I have just one problem with a computer I learn how to do something but I forget the order of things because I don't use it enough. I don't think I am alone. I forget most how to send picture I will get it figued out

Keep Weaving

Looks fabulous. What a wonderful location for a textile conference. I had no idea that I would want to plan a trip to Lodz, Poland!

Sara and all, Don't need to stay awake if you do not feel like. All sessions will be recorded and the link sent to all those with a proper registration (which requires paying a fee).

And yes, a trip to Lodz is well worthwhile specially if the Tapestry Triennial is open to visit. Not many tapestries but a lot of interesting textile art. The city is interesting also, it used to be called the Manchester of Central Europe because of its booming textile industry.

I’m jealous - I’d love to got to the conference.  We’ve been to Poland several times - it’s a beautiful country with wonderful people.  If you do go - don’t just visit Lodz (which is pronounced like Wodz BTW)- visit Zakopane (where the Pope used to ski), (I bought a beautiful textile and a model spinning wheel there) and Gdansk in the north - which is near Malbork (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malbork) which has a fantastic history - part of the Templar legacy, and don’t miss the salt mines - which begins with a W and there’s no way I can spell it but it’s near Krakow. And don’t miss Krakow - an amazingly beautiful city that even the Nazi’s spared in WWII.  And as long as you’re in Krakow - see the Lady and the Ermine which is in the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow.  And again - as long as you’re in Krakow - - you have to visit Auschwitz - if for nothing else but to pay homage to the many people who died there. And in the Old Town Warsaw (Stare Miasto) there’s a lovely Handcraft store with lots of textiles.  You can spend a day or more in the Stare Miasto - all along one side of the square there’s an amazing museum of the history of Warsaw - it was like being there.  Many of the tour guides have cards showing the devastation of Warsaw in WWII and how they basically picked up all the pieces and put it all back together. There were several places in Gdansk with restorations like that too.

Historically there were about 500 years that the country of Poland didn’t exist - yet there were always Polish people who were proud of being Poles.  If you have the stamina read Michner’s book Poland.

Visit Poland for the textile conference - but extend your visit for the history.  You won’t regret it.

PS Can you guess that my grandparents on my dad’s side were Polish?
