Fine art canvas wasn't all plain weave!

Found this article about a woman in Portugal analyzing and reproducing the canvas used by painters like El Greco and Titian:

It looks like an interesting article. Too bad the main information is hidden behind a paywall. Would anyone mind summarizing?

Thanks

Looks like you can download it from the front page of Helena Loermans' website

I spend most days weaving in the studio. It is typical for me to take 2 days to read e-mail and 2-3 days to think over my reply. The culture of immediacy is, unfortunately, not very compatible with the type of work I do.

My apologies for the paywall.  This also works to get around it, I believe.

Helena Loerman gave a presentation on her research and experimenting at the Weaving History Conference hosted (online) by the Thousand Islands Art Center last fall. It was very interesting! I've been in touch with her for more specifics and have purchased some linen to weave a canvas for a painter friend.

A weaving-painting collaboration. It's high on my list!

If anyone else has experimented with this, I'd be interested in a conversation.

Marjie Thompson has also discussed paintings on fancy wills several years ago in her CW Early Books and Manuscripts Study Group, and has been in touch with Helena.

I've corresponded with Loermans and posted about her work in my blog, www.denisekovnat.com

Here is the link to that post, from April 2021:
