As far as I know it is typically a silk weave from the French silk
industry, actually calles 'liseré'. I followed - 20 or over years ago -
courses in real complex weaves, weaving quiet a lot of samples,but in my
notes I just refound the name, but not so much info on structure or
exactly where it came from. Does the book of Burnham and Burnham
dictionary give info?
