Walthers Cornerstone 90' Turntable DCC Wiring issue
Tom Grassi
I am installing a Walthers 90’ Cornerstone Turntable on my third level.
I have the turntable placed. Leveled off.
I have the wiring on the turntable done so my turn table now has power.
I added the service tracks filed down the rails on each service track.
The lead in track has power and was coded as track 1
I have a total of 7 service tracks
I coded 3 and the turntable stops at each one.
So far so good.
I placed an engine on the lead in track and ran it into the bridge.
When the engine hit the bridge tracks my entire DCC system shutdown I have a short circuit.
I use a black and red wire for my feeders
My bus line is Blue and brown wire.
So on the diagram in the manual they marked the track A and B
B I used my Black Wire and that connects to the Blue wire on the bus line and this is the same for my entire layout.
A I used my Red wire and that connects to the Brown wire on the bus line.
The engine has a keep alive and when it made its way onto the bridge as I said the entire dcc shutdown and it came back right away the engine keep going even when I changed the speed step to 0
So I reset the system. And I have power on the bridge and the engine is still on the bridge track but I cannot send any command to the engine from my power cab
I just placed the engine on the bridge and still no commands being processed.
I put my volt meter on the service track and I have 14 volts which is what I have on all my track on my layout.
When I put the volt meter on the bridge track I do not get the same reading it varies
I ideas or suggestions --Tom Grassi trgrassijr@... |

Tom,
If you flip the wires on the bridge you would find the short circuit would go away until you rotate the bridge. You need an auto reverser added.

I flipped the wires on the bridge no change. Also according to the manual from Walthers they track has auto reversing already built in. I have a AR10 in stock but then if that was the case I would need one for each service track? -- Tom Grassi trgrassijr@... |

Hello ALL,
I removed the base from the layout and this time I marked the NO TRACK ZONES. and Home Base on the Lip of the base. Now I know where they are when it is placed on the layout. I reset the turntable and tested main line to bridge still had a problem. Put the engine on the bridge directly and still no commands to the engine. So I tried another engine and that worked. But the commands to the engine are delayed Do not understand why the engine with the keep alive had a problem on the turntable maybe the decoder ? I am going to setup the other service tracks and try difference engines see how they perform Any ideas or suggestions? I just tested another engine no keep alive and it short circuited also Something has to be wrong here Need help on this thanks -- Tom Grassi trgrassijr@... |

Hi Tom,
The Walthers Cornerstone turntables have reversing built in. When wired correctly, you do not need an automatic reversing module. The key is wiring it right. Look at the diagram on my website at: https://wiringfordcc.com/track_2.htm#a44 It is drawing for general turntables, so it shows a reversing controller. Since reversing capability is built into the Walthers, you do not need the reversing controller. DO NOTE that the tracks on the top of my diagram and the bottom both have the "blue" tracks on the left and the "red" on the right. DO NOT wire you turntable with the red and blue alternating all the way around the circle. You can assume the top tracks in my diagram are those tracks going into the roundhouse and the tracks on the bottom are those that bring the locomotive to the turntable from the rest of your layout. Also note that if you have a situation where a train will go straight across the turntable as might be done with a big loco, you will see that the red and blue rails align. Walthers does not use electronics to reverse their turntable. If you have one loco that works and another doesn't, that's a different problem. The same goes for a loco that responds with a delay. I'm thinking that the DCC signal on your track is corrupted and the loco is having a hard time getting a good signal. Is your turntable more than 30 feet from your booster? Did you twist bus wires leading in the direction of your turntable?| Allan Gartner Wiring For DCC |

Don’t really know much about this but why not try the effected engine on a test track not any pf the ones associated with the turntable or bridge.
If that loco works on a test track then you problem is within the turntable install. If it doesn’t work on a test track then you at least know it is faulty. Now comes a real problem is it faulty due to it’s contact with the turntable or some other reason?
My point is if you keep putting locos on the turn table and it is causing the problems in the loco you will soon run out of locos that work.

Hello All.
The problem was I guessed wrong. The connector on the bottom of the turntable has no markings for A B C D and when working up side down it looks right but it was not. I flipped the Power and DCC wires on the connector and now it is working Thanks for all the help on this -- Tom Grassi trgrassijr@... |
