Walthers 130' dc turntable, how to maually index

--I have an older Walthers 130' dc turntable received as a gift 12 years ago, brand new, just now installed in new layout. The indexing is not working well at all, moves a bit then stops. I'd prefer to use eyeball indexing, is there a way to convert to simple operation? Momentary pushbuttons, perhaps? Can anyone supply a wiring diagram to do this, please? This needs to be very simple as I am a dinosaur when it comes to electronics. N & W |

Since the turntable is controlled by electronics, there probably is no simple way to convert the TT to operate with a couple of push buttons. Fortunately, I think I have a simpler solution for you. You probably just need to clean the contacts at the center of the turntable on both the turntable pit and under the bridge. Be careful with the bridge! Don't bend the contacts or you are screwed.
Ideally, you should use contact cleaner. Rubbing alcohol may work well enough. You can get contact cleaner from All Electronics. Note: The old Walthers TT with the gray controller is not compatible with the new TT with the blue controller. Allan Gartner Wiring For DCC |

My older turntable died, Walthers no longer has parts to repair. Since the motor worked I installed a small decoder, gave it an unused address and control it with a throttle. Of course you then use the eyeball method to align.

Another option, if your layout is DCC controlled, is to remove all of the electronics and power the motor with a simple motor decoder. I did this for a friend's N Scale layout using old ConCor turntables. Smooth operation and easy to to stop where you need it. It's manual, but works surprisingly well. Wil |

Although you have a working turntable now - the use of "rubbing alcohol" is not recommended for cleaning contacts. Rubbing alcohol has a lot of oil in it (to make the rubbing smooth) and that oil will usually/eventually create a problem in the very parts you are cleaning. The recommended cleaners for any kind of contact surface are "contact cleaner" or a high percentage isopropyl alcohol (such as 90%). I have had enough trouble caused by the use of rubbing alcohol that I'd recommend you get a better cleaner and go back and redo what seems to be working. At a minimum get the correct cleaner and when it fails again use that instead of rubbing alcohol. - Jim in the PNW |

Thanks, Jim, the alcohol was a quick-fix, as I’m installing the roundhouse and garden tracks. I have contact cleaner inbound this week and will use that exclusively for the contacts. I appreciate your advice, many thanks.
