Hello all....

In some older houses...There is an Accent Trim, near the top of the Wall an inch or so down from the Ceiling.
Not necessarily a moulding but sometimes it is referred as such.

Both my 1908 and 1941 era Houses have such Trim.

I am setting up Kato N Scale Unitrack on the One Inch Wide accent trim my  1941 Home.
I was attempting to paint this accent trim, when I figured it would simply be easier to remove it.
And once in my hand....
This is about One Inch Wide...

With DCC and Sound...?

How to control the this long trackage through Walls over a distance ?
and not loose the DCC/Sound signal along the way....

Very impressive project. I have four tracks that go through the wall and back, about 80 feet total. One think I noticed, before I put covers over the track the trains might derail. With the covers almost never?? I am running "O" gauge three rail, so in "N" good track work would be a must.

Twisting the DCC power bus as it follows the track is the right method but be sure to add a snubber/filter to the DCC bus at the far end away from the track power booster. That helps greatly to minimize signal interference due to long DCC bus feed wires. 100-150 Ohms (not critical), 1/2 watt in series with a 0.1 uFD, 50V (or so) non-polarized ceramic capacitor are the right values to use. 12 AWG is probably overkill. 14 or 16 will work equally as well for N scale. You could also add a second snubber ~1/2 way down the bus if there is interference.

Oh... be sure to use plenty of track feeders to avoid poor sectional track connections where it will be difficult later to investigate and fix. And leave room to accommodate some track roadbed vs rail expansion/contraction.

Clean track and other power pickup issues may be a problem. Consider using some sort of keep-alive added to your locos.

Hello Mark:

An important part of maintenance is keeping the track clean. I use Scotch Brite disks mounted to the bottom of a gondola. I wanted to make them spin, but just dragging them seems to work fine. ( 50% of my track is in a tunnel )

It's all about the wiring.

With that said...
This is not my first such Shelf/Accent Trim Oval.
I created one circa 2016 at my other house (1908) in my bedroom; with Lionel O Scale Fast Track.
Then as I often do...I began a Bridge too Far.
Oops!
I aded HO Kato Unitrack and 28" Radius N Scale Unitrack increasing the radius of the O Scale to O-72.
This of course increased the width of the shelving but It did suffice to prove this theorem....
Model Railroading Shares Physics....
Plus....
N Scale runs great on a 71 inch radius while looking prototype too. (Doesn't Derail either)
Again it's 360 degree thinking...

If I have the room for O Scale...then I have the room for N Scale.

I actually stole the idea of Soldered N Scale Kato Unitrack from Lionel.

Fit the length of track on the top shelf of my Miele Dishwasher or clean it on the long stainless steel sink, salvaged from a restaurant.

We have a yet another combined issue here with the San Joaquin/Northern California environment....
From Tulle Fog, to Tulare Ticks, To Peat Dust, Ashe from Forrest Fires as well as Valley Fever.
Though my entire first floor has double paned windows with Planation Shutters....and for the most part I leave the windows closed and locked.
There is already a fine layer of dust over the planks of the shutters.
Meaning....?
I am also installing a Whole House Vacuum System; so there will be an outlet in every room of the house.

I also possess my own Federal HVAC (EPA) License so will be adding a serious filtration system to the Duct work but I am already planning on relocating some of it as well.
I am considering some sort of Return Air Vent System via each and every room in this house...

PS...
I already own perhaps every commercially available N Scale Track Cleaning System ever created.... and can tell you what does not work here.

Where did i get some of the most expensive ones ? but purchased them on the cheap.
Garage Layouts get too dirty too fast for I have now purchased several of them at perhaps 10 cents to the MSRP $.
Keeping a Layout Clean here is a serious issue....
