My Staging Approach?
Why would you need to stop a train over the switch? Could you extend the return loop past the point where the train stops? See Attachment. Scott Haycock

My Staging Approach?
How long will a train be stopped over the switch? IIRC, a Wabbit has a delay that is programmable for up to 255 seconds. If your train can be clear of the switch by 4 minutes or so, that may be a good

Thanks Peter, I might be able to make those work with optical fiber. What I'm hoping to locate is an SMD version, at the largest. Attached is a grab from a drawing of the engine, an HO Baldwin AS-616

Building a yard ladder
The key measurement for laying out yard tracks is center-to-center spacing. in HO this is usually 2'' on straight track. Lay it out. Most HO turnouts have to be shortened for ladders. The NMRA website
