Absolutely. Minimal sound while idling. Kill the sound if you don't want to, but the power is almost nothing.

I guess what is most confusing is: Is there harm to the loco sitting there with power that is what? Keeping the headlight on, and chuffing? It's not going anywhere as long as you don't program a throttle to it. So also let's say: you have your layout powered, all locos absorbing power. And you go to eat lunch, 1/2 hr later, come back and resume the operation you left.
