Hi Marsha! Mieke is the never stopping energizer bunny and she is really amazing to me! The records usually indicate the parents' professions but not the religion. You might assume Catholic though as that is the case the majority of the time. So to continue the research before 1796 you need to look into Parish registers and most of those are Catholic records. Mieke reminded me the different sites may be adapting to the flash player removal so you might encounter some issues some time but it won't be permanent. The French records are online as well, usually have to look for the Departmental Archives then proceed to the localities. It helps to be fluent in the language used in the records regine

The rest of the writing that i put ... for is the language of the record where they say they agree to be married and the publications were posted and there was no restriction to their getting married. I started another thread because this one is getting too hard to read thru. Did you find the translations? day laborer is what it translates to. If he was in a farming area, that means he likely worked the farms as a day at a time worker. Same with the mines and other jobs that did not require prior qualification
