I would agree that there is no flemish/belgian language. My family spoke french. It was the tying language when they married into a French-Canadian family. My family came from the Namur area and

Antwerp, where my mother was born, speaks flemish (dutch). My 2nd cousin who still lives in Brussels speaks French. So it depends on where you are at.

There is no "Belgian" language.
In Belgium, the languages spoken officially are Dutch, French and German.
Familysearch has a word book that might help.
