Lubrication of gravity arm latch where it engages the gravity arm?
WD40 is a ‘water displacing’ fluid. It leaves a nasty gummy residue as the solvent parts evaporate. It is this that prevents corrosion. Use proper clock cleaner, then lubricate only the pivots, and on

My first step would be to make sure it is all very clean. I have never experienced your problem, but because it isn’t a ’typical’ problem, I would be looking for a particular cause ……… before trying r

The key thing about the roller is that it should neither: Roll any distance along the ‘flat’ face of the pallet - which would lead to loss of energy Drop part way down the pallet - leading to an ‘impa

WD-40, WAS Lubrication of gravity arm latch where it engages the gravity arm?
I would wholeheartedly agree with the ‘perils’ of WD40. It’s horrible stuff for anything other than drying soaked metal items. I believe modern versions leave out the LPG and use compressed CO2 as the

Hi Jim, Clearly some are (or at least were) confused - which is why I tried to offer a ‘laymans’ explanation! In the light of that I’m sure you did the right thing. John

Synchronome Baseplate Finishing
The crackle finish came in around s/n 1800 in the very early 1930s. Your clock as you say dates to around early 1920s (clock 912 was delivered in 1921 and that is the nearest confirmed date I know of)
