Quick Note...

Sue Darby ~ www.suestinycostumes.com

I realize that the site has been down for a couple days... This seems
to happen everytime my host goes out of town....hasn't failed once in
the 3 years he's hosted... in fact it's become like a joke to us.
Another friend who's housesitting is going to be following the
instructions I was given for resetting the server and hopefully the
site will be back online shortly.

Until then however, if you use site:www.suestinycostumes.com in Google
and click on the cached version you can view the individual pages with
photos just no background and you have to go back to Google to
navigate. I discovered that some of my visitors are using this method
with success and tried it which is how I know the photos do show up.

Once the server is back to normal I will be posting several changes
I've made offline to the site. One main announcement will be a sale,
however, if the server is not online before Thanksgiving it will not
be a Thanksgiving sale it will end up a Birthday sale as my daughter
is about to turn 6 and I'll let her name the sale then. :-) I'll also
have a Pre-Christmas, Yeah Finals Are Over Special, and a Chrismas and
New Years sale coming up. What each one is exactly I'm not tellng
until time for it to start! :-)

Enjoy the holidays!

Hello from new member!

K. Boyd

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to do a quick intro - my daughter and I are having a lot
of fun with her 8" Madeline dolls right now, so I thought I might get
some good ideas for items here! I'm not much on sewing, but I can make
a few things with patterns.

I do have a suggestion for a pattern (I don't think there's one like
this already) - how about a Harry Potter robe with hood for Madeline-
sized dolls? I think that basic pattern could be used for other things
too, such as an angel, a choir member, or nativity scene robes,
with/without the hood. My daughter has been thinking about making her
Pepito doll into Harry and her extra Nicole doll into Draco Malfoy!
But I'm not feeling too sure I can make a robe all on my own.

I'm looking forward to being part of the group!

Sale...

Sue Darby ~ www.suestinycostumes.com

The first in a series of holiday sales has just been posted on the Specials
Page. Patterns are all Buy one Get one Free on Nov 30th & Dec 1st in
celebration of my daughter's 6th birthday and my domain's 3rd birthday!
Unfortunately no new patterns are up but I hope to have some after finals!
(mid month) I'll also be asking eventually for a couple guinea pigs to give
me serious feedback on the start of a new idea for delivery of the
classes... but only IF my friend who's good in Photoshop ever gets me the
photos I need to finish it!
Any questions drop me an e-mail!

This is a quick note to say thanks for letting me join
your group, and everytime I join a group, I have every
intention of being a participating member. But life
gets busy and takes most of my time and I can't be a
participating member, so I will be leaving.

I still collect and sew for dolls, but my taste keeps
changing. I'm sewing for a doll show for next month,
still have my kids to care for (and summer quickly
approaching us), and have family things to take care
of.

Since my mother in law's passing 2 weeks ago, I
realize how short life is and it's time for me to
shorten my computer time:)

thanks.....................Lise

Hi,

My name is Carmela. I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I am thrilled to have been accepted to this group. I have been doing miniature dresses and dolls for many years; patterns that are smothered in lace, ribbons and silk roses; the victorian era is probably my favourite era for patterns.

How I found Sue's Tiny Costumes was by searching miniature patterns. At the time, I bought one of her patterns and further browsing through the site led me to this group.

Am looking forward to meeting all of you and learning from your skills and expertise.

Luv, Carmela

Hi. My name is April Connett and I live in Winston-Salem, NC. I don't have children of my own, but have recently re-connected with a friend from college who has 5 girls(and 4 boys). I instantly thought of Barbie and her accessories. Apparently, I have thought of these things for most of my life . . . anyway, Barbie is easy enough to dress, but I cannot find patterns for Ken. I found the website in a Google search, and decided this sounded like a pretty cool place to be.

Hi!
Welcome! The group isn't terribly busy but then I haven't been on here much
in the last 3 years. I'm finally ready to get back to my dolls and crafts
and so I've started by organizing my supplies and currently even have a doll
on my desk to play with! :-)

I'd like to know what group members want to see me make as far as patterns
go? I have Kitty Collier sitting here with a Hakama in process... long story
short she is the start of making several of these for my children, sweetie
and friends who are all getting into working out using boffers (padded
swords). The most interesting thing about a Hakama is that it is both male
and female with the exceptions and differences being in the tops and the
layers worn underneath.

Anyway what do you want me to start drafting? Eras, styles, historic,
international. Costume history is actually fun as you learn about what was
worn and why along with what was going on in history at the time.

Welcome! The group isn't terribly active these last couple years but slowly
I'm getting back to my dolls and sewing and things should pick up. Don't
worry about not knowing how to sew or a lack of experience everyone has been
at that level at some point!

Again, welcome!

Do I answer here?

If so,

Hi my name is Eve and I live in Virginia. I am medical retired and have just
bought my first dollhouse. I have ordered a few patterns from a online store
that sort of go with what theme I want. I am more interested in the fantasy
side of miniature clothes, not Victorian--which seems to be about all I can
find online.

So it would be really great to find others who are like me and are wanting
something out of the norm that is offered out there. I am also interested in
making my clothes removable so I can change my dolls to fit my scene's.

I warn you however I don't have much experience in making doll clothes or in
using a sewing machine although I do have a machine. But I am willing to
learn :o) -- although I might be a bit slow, because of my medical
condition.

Eve

Welcome to the group! Please take the time to post a short (or long)
introduction. Simple stuff like your name and where you are in the world.
I'd also like to know about the types of styles you are looking for and how
you found my site or the group!
All new members are moderated and once you've posted I can remove the
moderation no problem.... it helps to prevent the spam some of the other
doll and mini groups seem to be getting!
Feel free to let us know if you have items on E-bay but please only post
that you have stuff once.... suggestion is to post your about me page or
your sellers items list so we can see everything at once.... you can in a
list tell us about the auctions but please one link and one e-mail a day!
Tell us about your mini projects... room boxes or dollhouses.... a lot of
the patterns I have would do wonderfully in a wardrobe setting... no doll
required. Custom patterns are also an option.... I love fun things like the
challenge of a custom item for just the right setting.
Anyway I'm done chattering here. Please post so we can keep the list
moving!
Old and new members .... welcome!

Hello new member here

E <eventine@...>

Hello everyone,

My name is Eve, and I have in the past made 1:12 polymer clay dolls, now I am moving on to dollhouses and house dolls. I haven't as of yet put any together although I have 4 waiting for me, to get to them and bring them to life.

I am medical retired, so my illnesses keep me from working on my projects as much as I would like to. I am interested however in
learning everything I can about the mini world, and how to do it
myself.

I live in Virginia in the USA for those that don't know where
Virginia is located. In my area I have one miniature shop but frankly
what the owner carries is the boring "same old" things you see ever
where else. I am more interested in fantasy instead of Victorian, and
will be working my way toward that. But first I have a Green Leaf
Doll House (the Beacon Hill) I have bought to get a taste of building
a structure. After that I hope to be able to go on and build castles
and any other fantasy structure that might tickle my fancy...lol

Of course clothing will play a large part in making the scene's come
to life, which is why I have joined the group. I am not a seamstress and will probably ask a lot of questions. Please bear with me, I know how tiresome it can get to keep going over the same information with new members all the time. I can only say...I REALLY want to learn, and will appreciate all the help I can get.

Thanks again,
Eve

Is there somwhere on the group site I can find patterns?

patterns?

myminilists <myminilists@...>

I am looking for the same thing, but I could have sworn that in the past I was contacted by someone that was in the process of creating patterns. I cannot recall. Have to check archives. I am certainly looking for patterns.

Long time no update!

Sue Darby ~ www.suestinycostumes.com

College is done (well last year it was), I have a new house and the final
version of an OLD term project (lower division Project Management class) is
complete.... my website redesign! There's some new patterns and I finally
have time to work on the UFO collection! I have a new pair of blogs
for Announcements
<http://weblog.suestinycostumes.com/>and Tutorials
<http://blog.suestinycostumes.com/>and look forward to working on them both!
Depending on family/work commitments I may or may not go back to offering
online classes in Pattern Drafting.... IF I do it will be weekend based
classes due to time zones (I am in Alaska which messes with everyone else!)

So what has everyone been up to?

New on Sue's Tiny Costumes

Sue Darby ~ www.suestinycostumes.com

This summer has been a busy one for me and I have finally after 2 years of
working on the site off and on on my local computer updated the site with
the new look! My other change was to move my Crash Course to a Tutorials
Blog and I also now post my various updates and talk more about sewing and
dolls on my Sue's Tiny Costumes Blog. You could say I've been a busy bee. I
graduated college with honors in June 2009 and bought a house this spring! I
commute to work via bus and have 2 hours a day now to do hand work.... I
just have to be careful about bumps and needles! I look forward to getting
back into things with my groups for both dolls and minis. As I've unpacked
I've discovered more and more projects I forgot I had!
