The Department of Anthropology at the University of North Texas invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in applied cultural anthropology for Fall 2023. The UNT Department of Anthropology is distinguished as part of a unique group of departments offering a Master’s in applied anthropology, as well as an undergraduate BA. We emphasize the use of anthropology to solve problems and improve people’s lives in the following areas of focus:
We seek research and teaching expertise in one or more of the above focus areas. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in the intersection of the environment, health/well-being, and social/racial justice. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology (or related field) at the time of appointment. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in applied cultural anthropology, particularly the intersection of the environment, health/well-being, and social/racial justice. Candidates committed to mentoring historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and/or first-generation college students are encouraged to apply. An applicant who can bridge the scholarship of current faculty in more than one area and/or with experience in policy will be considered a plus. Preference will also be given to applicants who demonstrate scholarly accomplishments, teaching experience, and experience in anthropological praxis. Applicants must submit a letter of application describing their qualifications, a statement of research interests, a statement of teaching philosophy, a diversity statement (describe how you incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion into your research and teaching practices, and how you would contribute to the development of a diverse and inclusive learning community at UNT through teaching and service), a curriculum vitae, and the names of three references with contact information.
