The AIDS and Anthropology Research Group (AARG), an interest group of the Society for Medical Anthropology (SMA), which is a sub-section of the American Anthropological Association, seeks submissions for the Moher Downing Distinguished Service Award. The Moher Downing Distinguished Service Award is given to a living anthropologist in recognition of his or her exceptionally meritorious contributions to the improvement of the health of people living with or at risk of infection with HIV. The nominee must be an anthropologist and AAA member. Criteria for selection includes: The impact of the individual’s excellence in service work and duration of their service work. The committee will consider the degree to which the individual’s service work promotes anthropology as a field concerned with improving the quality of human life, as well as expected further contributions in service, but neither are essential for nomination. To make a nomination, please submit a letter clearly outlining the justification for your nomination along with a CV of your nominee. Recipients of the award will be selected by the Distinguished Service Award Committee. The award consists of a $100 honorarium. The recipient’s name will also be announced in Anthropology News and at the Society for Medical Anthropology awards ceremony at the American Anthropological Association Annual Meeting in November 2022.
