  • Public art From Wikipedia
Public art is art in any media that has been planned and executed with the intention of being
staged in the physical public domain, usually outside and accessible to all. Public art is
significant within the art world, amongst curators, commissioning bodies and practitioners
of public art, to whom it signifies a working practice of site specificity, community involvement
and collaboration. Public art may include any art which is exhibited in a public space including
publicly accessible buildings, but often it is not that simple. Rather, the relationship between the
content and audience, what the art is saying and to whom, is just as important if not more
    important than its physical location.[1]

  • Forecast Public Art : Public Art Review
    What is public art?

Public art plays a crucial role in shaping our culturally vibrant and sustainable communities.
Artists of all disciplines are treating public space as a venue for creative experimentation.
Public art offers opportunities for community collaboration, for ideas to shape our environment,
and to influence change. The definition is always expanding — performance art, interventions,
land art, and wrapped buildings are just some examples — and artists are redefining public art
    every day..
    http://forecastpublicart.org/

  • What is Public Art? - Association for Public Art
Public art is not an art “form.” Its size can be huge or small. It can tower fifty feet high or call
attention to the paving beneath your feet. Its shape can be abstract or realistic (or both), and it
may be cast, carved, built, assembled, or painted. It can be site-specific or stand in contrast to
its surroundings. What distinguishes public art is the unique association of how it is made,
where it is, and what it means. Public art can express community values, enhance our
environment, transform a landscape, heighten our awareness, or question our assumptions.
Placed in public sites, this art is there for everyone, a form of collective community expression.
Public art is a reflection of how we see the world – the artist’s response to our time and place
combined with our own sense of who we are.

  • History and Overview : Mural Arts Program
"Mural Arts was first established in 1984 as part of the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network’s
effort to eradicate the city’s graffiti crisis. Artist Jane Golden was hired to reach out to
graffiti writers and redirect their energies to constructive public art projects. In addition to
addressing the problem of graffiti, Mural Arts’ collective mural-making processes proved to
be a powerful tool for generating dialogue, building relationships, empowering communities,
and sparking economic revitalization. In 1996, the Anti-Graffiti Network was reorganized and
the Mural Arts Program became its own entity. Soon after, the nonprofit Philadelphia Mural
Arts Advocates was established to raise additional funds for the program, making Mural Arts
    a unique public/private partnership.

The organization targets every neighborhood in Philadelphia, each year enrolling 2,000
individuals in its three programmatic initiatives and directly engaging an additional 18,000 in
its projects. The programmatic initiatives include Art Education for youth; Restorative Justice
for inmates, those re-entering society, and victims of violence; and Porch Light for those
struggling with mental illness, trauma, and addiction. Each of these initiatives generates
projects with themes and processes relevant to their target constituencies. Mural Arts also has
a Community Murals department, which focuses on creating projects in collaboration with
community groups and organizations; and a Special Projects department that produces
large-scale artworks meant to push the boundaries of public art."

    About Wynwood Walls

"The Wynwood Walls was conceived by the renowned community revitalizer and placemaker,
the late Tony Goldman in 2009. He was looking for something big to transform the warehouse
district of Wynwood, and he arrived at a simple idea: "Wynwood's large stock of warehouse

street art ever seen in one place." Starting with the 25th–26th Street complex of six separate
buildings, his goal was to create a center where people could gravitate to and explore, and
to develop the area's pedestrian potential.

The Wynwood Walls became a major art statement with Tony's commitment to graffiti and
street art, a genre that he believed was under appreciated and not respected historically.
He wanted to give the movement more attention and more respect: "By presenting it in a
way that has not been done before, I was able to expose the public to something they had
only seen peripherally." In 2010, building on the momentum of the year before, Goldman
Properties added 10 more artists to their roster of Walls. They opened the Wynwood Doors,
Tony Goldman’s nod to traditional portrait galleries and expanded the mural program
    outside the Walls."

3 Signs Your Team Isn't Doing Enough User Research

first experience that doesn't solve an immediate problem for them."

Meta-analysis

From Wikipedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meta-analysis

.

In statistics, meta-analysis comprises statistical methods for contrasting and combining results from different studies in the hope of identifying patterns among study results, sources of disagreement among those results, or other interesting relationships that may come to light in the context of multiple studies.[1] Meta-analysis can be thought of as "conducting research about previous research." In its simplest form, meta-analysis is done by identifying a common statistical measure that is shared between studies, such as effect size or p-value, and calculating a weighted average of that common measure. This weighting is usually related to the sample sizes of the individual studies, although it can also include other factors, such as study quality.

.

The motivation of a meta-analysis is to aggregate information in order to achieve a higher statistical power for the measure of interest, as opposed to a less precise measure derived from a single study. In performing a meta-analysis, an investigator must make choices many of which can affect its results, including deciding how to search for studies, selecting studies based on a set of objective criteria, dealing with incomplete data, analyzing the data, and accounting for or choosing not to account for publication bias. [2]

.

Meta-analyses are often, but not always, important components of a systematic review procedure. For instance, a meta-analysis may be conducted on several clinical trials of a medical treatment, in an effort to obtain a better understanding of how well the treatment works. Here it is convenient to follow the terminology used by the Cochrane Collaboration,[3] and use "meta-analysis" to refer to statistical methods of combining evidence, leaving other aspects of 'research synthesis' or 'evidence synthesis', such as combining information from qualitative studies, for the more general context of systematic reviews.

Systematic Review Methods

The Community Guide

http://www.thecommunityguide.org/about/methods.html

What is a systematic review?

A systematic review is a review of scientific studies on a specific topic. It uses a formal process to:

Identify all relevant studies

Assess their quality

Summarize the evidence

Why do a systematic review?

Systematic reviews help make sense of large bodies of scientific literature by applying the scientific process to:

Reduce bias in how conclusions are reached

Improve the power and precision of results

Summarize evidence about the effectiveness of particular approaches for addressing a public health problem

Analyze generalizability of findings

Identify knowledge gaps and need for additional research

(number 1139856) whose Patron is Baroness Mary Warnock - has sought to improve public and professional
understanding of, and engagement with, these fields.

In addition to explaining the science behind the headlines, BioNews covers the political, legal, ethical and
broader social issues that arise from controversial developments. Its news, comment and reviews - available
for free on this website and also via its email newsletter, RSS feed and twitter feed - provide an invaluable
roundup of essential news and views for anyone with a professional or personal interest in biomedicine.
The editors of BioNews have total editorial control of its content. In producing this publication, they are bound
only by honest reporting and scientific accuracy.

BioNews specialises in material that is simultaneously targeted at lay and specialist audiences – comprehensible
by the former, but nonetheless regarded as valuable and authoritative by the latter. It strives to represent a wide
range of public and professional viewpoints, and to respond rapidly to issues when they trigger media debate.
It also aims to contribute to the training of the next generation of science writers, by offering the opportunity to
write for BioNews and join its successful writing scheme."
