You should register as an individual.  We will talk about it more at the club meeting this coming Thursday evening.

Thanks,

Rowland

For comms should we organize within SNOVARC (i.e., a SNOVARC volunteer list) or just individually volunteer via the form?

Also, the September 11th CDCCC meeting at the fire station in Carnation, at 7PM, will be focused on discussing what we will be doing, and sharing information about this exercise.

Quiet Yamaha generator $400 at Costco

Robin Amundson

I was hearing a buzz among hams about a deal at Costco on a Yamaha generator, much quieter than a Honda. 48 lbs, portable for a field activation. I have been concerned about my home station power needs in an emergency. Our home generator would not also work for my shack. I bought one, checking off that box for em comm preparedness. Woodinville store still has a pile of them, but not for long.

I have recently been surprised at this price.  They are comparable to honda EU2000i (which is 2x the cost) for the noise rating. Definitely a good deal if you can swing it.

I'm wondering if something like this would be a good deal for the club as a whole. What fuel does it take?

Help with wiring/checking a circuit

Howard E. Mahran / WA1HEM

Hello SnoVarcians -

I'm in need again of some Elmering. I have a Volt / Amp meter that I am wiring into my Go-Box. By itself it's simple but I also have a Low Loss PwrGate in the circuit which has my brain slightly twisted. I don't want to fry anything unnecessarily. Is there anyone that can double-check my wiring before I power it on?

Net Control

Ken Kosters

Hi all,

As of tonight I would like to be removed from all net control assignments.

Last week being the fifth weekend of the month and tried my best to fill in but could not find script in reasonable time on the group page. This was going to be mentioned at this afternoon meeting but was cut off being the appropriate time for comment.

I am very frustrated with some that can speak without others being allowed even if be courteous by raising hand for relevant comment.

Saturday Ham/spouse/friend Social at The Bindlestick: all welcome!

Robin Amundson

Though our Thursday evening summer gatherings at Big Rock are over for the season, we will continue with social gatherings from time to time throughout the year at various venues up and down the valley.  Our first venue and date is on the patio of The Bindlestick, across the street from the Snoqualmie Train Depot. We gather around 12:15 p.m. this Saturday, September 7.  There is no agenda other than hanging out and socializing.  Sandwiches, coffee, and beer are available for purchase. Hope to see you there.

Please help spread the word!

Yamaha generators to be used on Tillamook Rock, NA-211

Robin Amundson

K7TRI hopes to begin activation tomorrow from the Tillamook Lighthouse on Tillamook Rock. The lighthouse is one of the rarest and most sought-after in the world for radio activation. If they make it onto the rock and everything works out, they will be on the air September 6-9. It is very, very challenging successfully landing two helicopters on the rock, one with gear, the other with people. For a fascinating bit of history I recommend the several YouTube videos of the storied owners of the past, including its current private owner. Notice all the bird and seals and their droppings. Watch waves crashing over the lighthouse. Read about attempts to get onto the rock without helicopters. Not at all for weak hearts. Imaging camping with no doors or windows on hard, cold concrete, accessible by hundreds or thousands of birds and sea lions. Imagine the stench. All for the love of amateur radio...This one really brings the history and drama into the hobby. I plan to spend time working them. Just because they are close, won't make it necessarily easy.

And, the reason I thought to write about it is: YAMAHA GENERATORS!

Hi Roland,

Someone left a pair of sunglasses in the classroom last night. They were found on the floor.

Could you please email those members of SVARC that were at the meeting and see if it belongs to one of them?

Thank you,

_._,_._,_

I think ‘intrepid’ might be a better word than ‘crazy’.  But the folks headed to that rock are *seriously* intrepid.

It’s all well and good to say “Oh, helicopters are going to drop us onto the rock, no worries”.  But then you still need to get *off* the rock without dying, and that looks like a more, um, exciting proposition than getting on to my eye.  If you’re not on the rock and the weather turns foul, you just don’t go there.  If you’re on the rock and the weather turns foul, there’s no way to get off and you’re committed to riding out the bad weather, which does not look like it would be any fun at all.
