Do you suggest we reschedule for next
Thursday? Or do you know of a day that looks “great” – we
might be able to be flexible…

our guests, but of course we know we can’t control the

Also: we’ve been getting a lot of inquiries
about doing a more child/teen friendly version (not a wine
dinner) we would probably have about 10-20 older kids/teens.

As a bad weather make up date one week later the moon will
be a crescent and a good target. See below.
Orion will be high in the sky at 9:00 PM and the moon will
be to the west. See further below.
To the west we will have many of the characters in the
Persis drama. See even further below.
Night sky Jan 30
Cephus the King. Cassiopeia the Queen, Andromeda the
daughter. Cetus the whale is some times said to be the sea
monster. And Pegasus the flying horse and the hero
Perseus. Even Venus, the spiteful goddess, is there.

Ok the proposed date is Thursday the 23.

Per my voice mail just now please call. My

Regarding January 20. The moon is almost new
and so not up until about 5 AM. The moon is a
good view for beginners. January 4th would be a
much better date as there would be a young moon
interesting to see and then it would set so the
sky gets darker and we (weather permitting)
would see more objects in the then darker skies.
Also January 20 is a Monday which will not work
for members who are not retired.
Anyway, below is an image of the sky for
January 20 and you can see Orion in the east. It
is in Orion where there is a star forming region
(M42 it is called) which is interesting for
beginners.
If there is a room with a computer and
projector where we could show information about
M42 and the history of humanity's growing
understand of stars of which this is an
interesting part. Such a presentation would help
people get more out of what we can see.
FYI Venus will be up and is interesting for
persons who have never see it.
That time of year, there are a lot of asterisms
(sort of like constellations) overhead with
names from Greek mythology from the tale of the
hero Persis. If participates saw the rather
melodramatic movie Clash Of The Titans

I would love to speak with someone about having a private star party at Dancing Bear Lodge on January 20th.
We understand that the night sky wont be as dark as say, Cades Cove but we would like to include your star gazzing activities (for whatever we can see) into an upcoming event at Dancing Bear Lodge in Townsend, TN.
We will have a wine dinner first (galaxy themed) and would like to follow it with a star party/viewing afterward.
