Message to New Users of SMAS Groups.io

Jim Sanders

Hello,

Welcome to the smokymtnastro@groups.io.  Here are a few tips we have discovered during our initial usage.

1.      The web address is groups.io not group.io.  The second choice (singular) will take you to the wrong site.

2.      Training videos:

Here are links to YouTube videos that go through two options for using Groups.io services:
https://youtu.be/0oiV5QnRcRU  for email interface
https://youtu.be/mI4SmVlInCc    for web interface

3.      Please read the file document "SMAS Discussion Group etiquette.pdf".  This is the last document in the "Files" section and describes the norms and rules that we want to follow for the use of this group. Thanks go out to Erik Iverson for preparation of the original document.

4.      The web page interface may behave differently depending on which browser you are using.  If you are trying to open documents in the “Files” section, you may find that it will open correctly if you have that application on your computer or it may ask you to browse to where you want to download the document.  These choices are based on the option setting of your browser and not any of the setting in the Groups.io interface.

5.      Just a tip on viewing photos in the gallery - the standard viewing is of low quality. You have to hit the "download" button at the bottom. When you do this, it will give you another window view in high quality but it doesn't actually download to your computer.  In short, click on the download button if you want to view it in full detail.

6.      You can set your subscription settings here: https://groups.io/g/smokymtnastro/editsub. You can opt to receive: all messages in individual emails, collections of messages in a digest, a daily summary, or only special notices.

7.      If you do not wish to belong to this group, you may unsubscribe by sending an email to: smokymtnastro+unsubscribe@groups.io

To see and modify all of your groups, go to https://groups.io
