Orchard Oriole, Los Osos Valley Nursery, 1/8-9

The apparent Orchard Oriole is at the nursery again this morning. This is a difficult identification for anyone that rarely sees Orchard Oriole. One of the best ways to separate it from Hooded is to listen for the Orchard’s “chuk” calls. Always good to familiarize oneself with the calls of a target species.

Again, serving only as the messenger -- I’ve only seen photos/video.

Subject: [slocobirding] Orchard Oriole, Los Osos Valley Nursery, 1/8

Petra Clayton sent me photos and video of what appears to be a young male Orchard Oriole at the nursery. The bird appears small and the bill and tail look short. No calls heard in the video.
