Laguna Lake, 6/25

Tom Edell

A couple of interesting birds at the lake this morning. There was an immature Brown Pelican near the Prefumo Creek outlet and a Willet flew in for a brief stop at the same location. Both are rare here with only six Brown Pelican records and only third Willet record. This is the first June record at the lake for both species. The Willet was probably a southbound migrant, but was too distant to age, even with a scope.

The only shorebirds of interest seen from the Audubon overlook this morning were three dowitchers and 12 Black-bellied Plovers foraging on mudflat at the northern side of the estuary.
