Harris's Sparrow, Red-naped Sapsucker

Tom Edell

A immature Harris’s Sparrow was found at the Avila Beach Golf Course maintenance facility today. The facility is along the Bob Jones Trail. This is the same location the Red-naped Sapsucker has been present for a few winters. Be aware that along with the continuing Red-naped Sapsucker, a clear hybrid was photographed with it today. It has more extensive red on the head, face, and breast and lacks the black colored break between the crown and nape. For those using eBird, please entered that bird as a Red-naped x Red-breasted Sapsucker (hybrid).
