Lewis's Woodpeckers - Upper Prefumo Canyon Rd.

Lewis’ woodpeckers still present…in tall eucalyptuses 150m down from where asphalt meets dirt.

This morning I watched at least 14 Lewis's Woodpeckers flying back and forth among tall cypresses and oaks just beyond the crest of Prefumo Canyon Rd. This is where there is a cattle guard and the road turns to dirt (or mud in this case). They were quite vocal at times with their squeaky calls and chatter. Several were reported along this section of road by Bill Haas last week. I also had 3 White-throated Sparrows together in with a small flock of White-crowned and Golden-crowned Sparrows.
