White-winged Scoter, Harlequin Duck, White-winged Dove, and more

Tom Edell

This morning  the male Harlequin Duck and a female White-winged Scoter were visible from Avila Beach Drive (north of the Cal Poly Pier).

At Laguna Lake, I missed the Tropical Kingbird seen earlier in the morning and the two Black-necked Stilts at the Prefumo Creek outlet into Laguna Lake yesterday. A flock of about 50 swallows foraging over the northwest end of the lake included two Barn Swallows and several Tree and Violet-green Swallows. I searched a flock of 60 or more White-throated Swifts flying high overhead without finding any Vaux’s. Greater White-fronted Geese (18) continued at the Prefumo Creek outlet. The lake level has risen and inundated some of the sandbar on the west side.

The White-winged Dove appeared in my 9th Steet, Cayucos yard again this afternoon at 2:15 PM. Mike Bush located it over an hour later at feeders on 9th Street. Lots of Eurasian Collared-Doves in the neighborhood.
