An imm. Swamp Sparrow appeared in the tules and
grasses at the mouth of Meadow Creek bordering Pismo State Park
Campground this morning. I see that six Swamp Sparrows were seen
at Gaviota Beach to our south in Santa Barbara County this morning
also, so a recent push is in progress. Grasses and shrubbery
around the creek mouth also held a Pacific Wren, which I found
surprising because they typically like deeper tangles in damp,
dark areas with overarching cover provided by willows or trees. I
can't imagine the wren will stay where it was this morning. The
berry tangles along Meadow Creek under willows a few hundred yards
upstream are perfect wintering habitat for it.
The imm male Broad-billed Hummingbird continued in its favorite
flowering trees (New Zealand Christmas Trees per Mike Bush) this
morning as well.
