- Comments: "I walked into the dense riparian forest between Windsor and Santa Rosa Creek to investigate a flock of Bushtits and saw this bird about 20 feet up in a willow. When I first glimpsed it I could see a small passerine that had a pale belly and undertail coverts. When it came out of a clump of willow leaves I was able to see a bright yellow-green back, and bluish-gray wings with white wingbars. The yellow throat and breast had a rufous band mixed with faint dark feathers. I don't recall seeing the eye arcs and do not recall the bill color. I think the head was blue-gray but am not certain. It was only visible for a short time and was partially obscured in all views. It move from where I saw it and was not seen again."

Tennessee Warbler (Leiothlypis peregrina) (1)
- Reported Sep 23, 2020 07:37 by Nick Belardes
- Meadow Park, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=35.2675798,-120.6606531&ll=35.2675798,-120.6606531
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S73963068
- Comments: "Continuing bird. Clean white underside, including vent, undertail coverts and belly. Pale yellow throat. Dark eyeline, pale supercilium. Lime green wings, crown, neck and back. In mixed flock with Yellow-rumped, Townsend’s male, and Orange-crowned warblers. Spotted bird on my second visit to tree bearing fruit on Northeast end of park at end of condos. Spotted the underside of bird, then a side view. The bird appeared a second time as well while viewing species in same tree. On my first visit to this tree this morning I only saw Yellow-rumped Warblers. I then explored the community garden, baseball field, and did a second viewing of another active warbler area before returning to this tree, where another flock had arrived. I knew it was another flock because I hadn’t seen or heard any Townsend’s in the park until arriving back to this tree that also had the Tennessee in it. The bird foraged quickly, only pausing a few times, and not long enough for me to grab a photo."

Blackpoll Warbler (Setophaga striata) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Sep 22, 2020 09:22 by Tom Edell
- Pismo SB--Oceano Campground, San Luis Obispo, California

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S73942375
- Comments: "Seen along the lagoon trail where it parallels Pier Avenue. The bird was foraging in the upper branches of arroyo willows and loosely associating with a mixed flock of chickadees and warblers. We had one brief open view of the bird, but most views were obstructed and often back lit. When first seen I observed the white wingbars and white belly and undertails coverts. As it moved from branch to branch, the yellow throat and upper breast, the dark streaks on a greenish back, and a dark eyeline were noted. I never saw the color of the legs or feet and do not recall how prominent the streaks were on the side of the breast. Lots of poor views. No photos taken."

Black-and-white Warbler (Mniotilta varia) (1)
- Reported Sep 27, 2020 07:04 by Nick Belardes

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S74132369
- Comments: "Seen in bottlebrush tree with Bushtits. I heard the Bushtits and stopped to examine if any warblers were among them as they foraged along top and sides of bottlebrush tree. Spotted warbler in the interior of tree. It flew to trunk about fifteen feet up. The bird then moved to a thick trunk-like branch and crept along the bark. Saw top view of bird as it crept along side of branch. Noticed its warbler shape and long bill, that it was black and white overall with a prominent striped back, white throat and black-and-white striped head. Also noticed the double white wingbars when I was able to get a side view, its striped side, and spots along side of undertail covert. The bird hopped onto another internal branch of tree and moved upwards where I lost sight. I noticed the Bushtits were soon gone. Guessing they were possibly traveling together because I couldn’t find the warbler again. I did later return to the same trees with Jeanette Stone, and also searched park for any more signs of Bushtits."

Found creeping in bottlebrush trees near mid-park bridge around 7:30 a.m. Followed for about five minutes. Spotted same bird again when it flew over me into a deciduous tree along fence line close to CASA DIABLO feeder area. Bird crept up branches then darted to another tree. Spotted bird a third time while looking at warbler flock near fruit-bearing tree at northeast end of condos with Rudy Lucerno. We tracked the bird for five minutes or so as it crept up tree trunks and thick branches, flying to 2-3 different trees. It eventually flew into a sycamore tree next to paved path, again creeping up and down trunks and branches. While observing bird, a bicyclist on cell phone yelled “Watch it!” to Rudy. Afterwards we lost the bird. Details: black and white, medium-sized warbler with black-and-white lines down back and on crown, white throat, spotted undertail coverts. See Rudy’s checklist for ID images."

- Comments: "Found yesterday by Kevin Zimmer around marker 6 on Morro spit. M. Obs. found it today around (35.3515401, -120.8622091). Classic breeding plumage appearance with bright eyebrow and dark lores at gape. Slightly larger than close by SEPL. Photo to follow.
Kayaked from Sub Sea (Dakota helped with advice) in Morro Harbor about 200 yds. to Morro spit. Canoe would be good too. Walked ~300yds. west on vehicle path to beach, then about 1/2 mile south to where CRPL was resting. (35.3515401, -120.8622091). Perhaps an easier route for those disinclined to hike 6-8 miles round trip.

Of course bird could be one mile or one hundred miles further south this time tomorrow."

- Comments: "I first saw the plover at post #6, where several birders were looking at the bird. The bird flew south and the birders went after it. I headed north back to my kayak, and saw the bird, which had apparently quickly doubled back on the chasers, a little distance north of post 6. Plover slightly larger than Semi-palmated. Black collar around neck and bleeding into upper breast, setting off bright white collar under the bill and around neck. White patch above bill, surrounded by black on the forehead and eye. Eye black with no eye ring. Bill orangish at base with dark tip."

Bill had an orange base with a black tip. The only one out there with summer (dark black) plumage on head and chest made finding it fairly easy, but it did take time to weed through the myriad of other plovers."

- Comments: "I just happened by the flock of birders trying to locate this bird this morning. It was just north of Rescue Marker 6 in the wrack with a larger group of semi-palmated and further up the beach western snowy plovers. I Was in a side by side vehicle and tried not to flush the flocks on my way north. On the way south I stopped to see if they had found the bird. Very striking dark black markings on face and neck with very orange bill. Contrasted nicely compared to all the other semi-palmated plovers around who were much more drab in color. Closer to the north end of the spit which would be a shorter walk if one has a kayak or canoe and can walk south from Tidelands Park corridor @ rescue marker 7. I cheated as I was working and happened upon the sighting . Happy coincidence."
