- Comments: "1-2 present. I first saw one up creek of the pedestrian bridge that just finished bathing. It preened in the willows before dropping to the lawn around the well trimmed pink flowering shrubs. I lost sight of this bird and then walked west and found one with the Audubon's Warblers on the lawn between the dog park and the Alva Paul Creek riparian habitat. I could see no obvious difference between the birds at each location and it was possibly the same bird, though two reported here recently suggests two may have been present. Both birds had bright yellow undertail coverts but were otherwise pale below with diffuse streaks across the breast, a dark eye line and pale supercilium, brownish back and wings, and intermittently bobbed the tail while feeding and at rest."

Initially at the southern end of the beach but eventually came to the northern end where I was able to study and photograph the bird. Initially appeared to be this species, but wings appeared longer that the adult and juvenile I'd recently seen along the north coast. This bird had a distinct dark cap, pale supercilium, ear spot and longish bill. Four primaries were visible beyond the tertials which ended about even with the base of the tail. While perhaps a bit long-winged for this species, the warm colored underparts and face, relatively long bill and other marks mentioned previously all indicate Pacific Golden-Plover."

Orange-crowned Warbler (celata) (Oreothlypis celata celata) (1)
- Reported Nov 11, 2018 08:35 by Kaaren Perry
- Morro Bay yard, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=35.360935,-120.844846&ll=35.360935,-120.844846
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S49901816
- Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "On 11/11 at 8:35 am I saw a small warbler silhouetted against the morning sky from our window. It was feeding along the top edge of our tall ivy hedge. My first impression was OCWA due to the over all shape, gleaning style and location on the hedge. A brief look of the head with binoculars revealed an eye arch, a very faint eye line and a warbler like bill. The upperparts appeared pale gray with the darkest on the head. I saw 1-2 white feathers at the bend of the wing. Most eye catching were the strongly contrasting yellow undertail coverts. I was unable to observed any yellow on the underparts other than on the yellow undertail coverts. Reviewing my photos a pale yellow wash may be seen in the photos. I grabbed my camera and got just a very few shots as it flew off and out of sight. Unfortunately the bright yellow contrast of the undertail covets does not show as such in the photos due to harsh light and unprepared camera setting. All this took place in about 1 minute.

Among others I considered a Nashville, a very drab Yellow Warbler or Common Yellowthroat as possibilities. Various details eliminate those and other species. Foraging behavior, facial pattern, bill shape, body shape, leg color, tail size, shape and undertail pattern all among things compared.

After sharing my observation, photos and thoughts with a few others and researching further I am submitting this bird as a celata subspecies of the OCWA."

Bird observed 200-300 meters north of Morro Rock in Surf Scoter flock and near surfers enjoying 5ft-7ft swells. Some of the Surf Scoters seemed unfazed as surfers raced by on both sides only a few feet away. Long-tailed Duck stood out from the flock with its white head, large, dark ear patch, white sides and dark wing lines.
