Brown Creeper, South Higuera

Tyson Baker

Had a brown creeper today, 300 block of South Higuera in SLO. I have a feeder behind the shop, by the creek. I've had red breasted nuthatches here for weeks, and now, a brown creeper! I was quite surprised!

Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

mike stiles

I was able to find the continuing sapsucker at Cuesta College this morning, in the north west corner of the campus. It was very mobile and visited many trees in the area in a short amount of time. I was able to photograph it in the large Casuarina tree with many sapsucker drillings.

Pacific Golden-Plover, Point Sierra Nevada Grassland, 14 Feb

Tom Edell

An adult Pacific Golden-Plover was in the grassland at Point Sierra Nevada this morning. This is most likely one of the two last reported in Oct 2019. I saw it during a hike from Arroyo de La Cruz parking area north along the bluff and beach to Point Sierra Nevada and the back on the inland side of the dunes and willows. The lack of passerines was notable this morning with not a single Yellow-rump Warbler seen or heard and no shorebirds along the sandy beaches. In spite of that, it was a beautiful morning on the north coast.

Can’t be 100% certain this is the same male Selasphorus I saw a few days ago but...
This morning I had a head to tail rufous hummingbird ‘suggesting’ an adult male Rufous.
I have been hearing a Selasphorus daily.

tree swallows

Sally Bird

This morning at 10 a.m. a tree swallow was investigating my nest box.  It even entered and spent 10 minutes checking it out.  Meanwhile, 2-3 more swallows circled the vicinity.  They nested here two years ago and returned last May, but the bluebirds claimed the nest box for themselves.  Once the bluebirds were finished the tree swallows immediately took over.  Do you suppose they want to avoid that happening again?  Isn't it too early to nest?

I would appreciate any comments.
