I saw it briefly this morning at 8 am toward the west end of the Marina. It flew out from the eucalyptus, over the cafe, then headed north and out of view.

Zone-tailed Hawk, Morro Bay SP Marina, 29 Dec
The bird was flying around the estuary and marina between 3:30 and 4:00 PM today and surely went to roost somewhere in the State Park. It should be in the area tomorrow morning.

Re: Mockingbird singing - revisited
I come from St Louis, MO and remember nighttime mockingbird singing as a regular occurrence. Non-birder friends would ask me why, and I had no answer.

Re: Mockingbird singing - revisited
I have had a winter singing mockingbird every year in Paso Robles. One is singing right now. It's my very favorite songbird. Reminds me of my childhood in the Deep South.

Chestnut-collared Longspurs!
I know that it is not in SLO county, but Since it is so close I thought I should post it here;
Today we found 3 Chestnut-collared Longspurs + another Longspur sp. at New Cuyama Water Treatment Plant.

Zone-tailed Hawk, Morro Bay State Park Marina, 3:30 PM, 12/21
At 3:30 PM the Zone-tailed Hawk was flying over the row of eucalyptus trees between the marina and State Park Road. Chances are good it will be foraging over the estuary tomorrow morning.
