Hi Liam and Kilian,

Where in the campground were your birds? Same as Jeff’s? Thanks.

The Redstart I saw at Islay this morning was a female or a first year bird, with yellow in the tail and wings. So there were two different Redstarts at Islay today.

Lesser Yellowlegs - Turri Ponds

Kaaren Perry

This morning a juvenile Lesser Yellowlegs was moving with 3 Greater Yellowlegs around the edges of the first pond.  I always appreciate the chance to compare size, bill length and shape when they are seen together.   Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs photo up on flickr.  http://www.flickr.com/photos/kaarenp/    Also present were at least 28 Red-necked Phalaropes in various stages of molt. Several hundred peeps in the larger pond but I did not take the time to sort through them all.

Since my last visit, Whale Rock Reservoir has added a few more duck species.  Soon more and more species will be arriving for the winter.
Both an adult and immature Bald Eagle were flew over the reservoir.

The warblers are here! There was quite a large mixed flock at Islay Campground in Montana de Oro this morning. The flock was high in the pines on the south side of the first loop of the campground. Light conditions were very poor, but I did manage to get on an AMERICAN REDSTART (female or first year). Also Hermit, Black-throated Gray, Wilson’s, and Orange-crowned warblers in the flock, a Western Tanager, and Warbling Vireo. There’s got to be some other goodies in that flock.

I have had great difficulty keying this out. Let me know if you think I have it correct.  Will send dorsal side pic.  Does have eye arcs.

Banded Caspian Tern

RoserComeau

Penny Principe, Roger Zachary, and I observed an adult banded Caspian Tern at Villa Creek, Estero Bluff State Park, today. Via some internet sleuthing I discovered the bird was banded as a chick at Sheepy Lake on the CA/OR border in 2012. We also observed two banded Snowy Plovers, but I don't have information on them yet.
Photos can be seen on the ebird list:

Happy birding,

The juvenile Buff-breasted Sandpiper continues. Unfortunately in the closed section. It is just south of post #6, working it's way north.
