- Comments: "continuing adult male found yesterday by Kathleen Kent and seen by many today. It spent most of its time drilling a large Monterey cypress and twice flew to an adjacent pine (Italian stone pine?). Very cooperative bird that stayed in view on trunk of cypress for all to see. Straightforward ID given the black head, wings, chest, and back yellow on the belly, red throat patch, and horizontal white stripe in the closed wing. The head showed a white supercilium that started behind the eye that was separated from the white mustache by broad black eyeline. The yellow belly was bordered by mottled black and white. The tail was black, the upper tail coverts were white, and from what I could see of the undertail coverts they were broadly streaked with black. (photos)"

Magnolia Warbler (Setophaga magnolia) (1)

- Islay Creek Campground--Montana de Oro SP, San Luis Obispo, California

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S96241212
- Comments: "First-year bird foraging with a mixed flock of 8-10 warblers, Golden-crowned Kinglets, Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and at least one chickadee. Bright yellow underside with black streaks, yellow throat, grey head, white eyering, grey wings with double wingbars. Wasn’t able to see undertail or note back colors. Checked photos but wasn’t able to capture an image. This was just west of horse trail in tangles on the backside of a pine or spruce. The flock was making quite a racket, attracting my attention. After scanning the flock for a few moments I spotted the warbler hop into view. I first noticed the bright yellow underside (and black streaks) contrasting with its grey wings, and that yellow throat contrasting with its grey head and bold eyering. I yelled out “Magnolia Warbler” hoping Ched would be able to snag a photo, knowing how difficult these tangles would be to get a shot. I’d never seen a Golden-crowned Kinglet before, so when one suddenly hopped into view I got completely confused thinking I’d struck gold again with a more fabulous warbler than a Magnolia. I lost sight of the Magnolia and the flock moved down the hill further into the wilderness."
