- Comments: "Originally found yesterday (10/15/21) by Kathleen Kent in the Cypress Tree closest to the end of the first loop by campsite 8. There was, as Tom would say, “a mob” of birders there this morning observing this “life bird” for many of us. The bird was working it’s sap wells about 3/4 up the center part of the tree. Observed a black and white woodpecker with two white stripes on the face , a red throat , and yellow wash on its belly."

- Comments: "The bird was located at the far (East) end of the first loop of campsites. I looked at a camp schematic when I got home and I think its between sites 8 and 10, in a very large Cypress (?) tree.
This is a male Williamson’s Sapsucker, age unknown. The head is black with a white supercillium stripe and a second white stripe circling over the the beak and continuing under and past the eye. There is a bright red oval patch under the jaw, and is the only red on this bird. The back is all black with part of the white rump visible. The wings are black with a very large white patch showing on the folded wing. The sides of the belly and flanks are white with black streaking. The chest is black, ending with an abrupt line with a very distinct yellow tinge below the black, which continues the entire length of the belly, almost to the tail. Photos soon."
