Common Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Oct 03, 2020 10:13 by Mike Stiles
- Common Ringed Plover Stakeout--Morro Bay Sandspit, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=35.3502199,-120.8619518&ll=35.3502199,-120.8619518
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S74372893
- Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "I first saw the plover at post #6, where several birders were looking at the bird. The bird flew south and the birders went after it. I headed north back to my kayak, and saw the bird, which had apparently quickly doubled back on the chasers, a little distance north of post 6. Plover slightly larger than Semi-palmated. Black collar around neck and bleeding into upper breast, setting off bright white collar under the bill and around neck. White patch above bill, surrounded by black on the forehead and eye. Eye black with no eye ring. Bill orangish at base with dark tip."

- Common Ringed Plover Stakeout--Morro Bay Sandspit, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=35.3502199,-120.8619518&ll=35.3502199,-120.8619518
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S74375096
- Media: 9 Photos
- Comments: "Virtually identical to Semipalmated Plover with the exception of a few things: white forehead patch extended all the way to the eye, it had a white eyebrow that started above the eye and went back and well behind it, no orbital ring, and had dark black head and chest stripes (summer plumage). Bill had an orange base with a black tip. The only one out there with summer (dark black) plumage on head and chest made finding it fairly easy, but it did take time to weed through the myriad of other plovers."

Common Ringed Plover (Charadrius hiaticula) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Oct 02, 2020 09:00 by John Sayers
- Morro Dunes Natural Preserve, San Luis Obispo, California

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S74337017
- Comments: "I just happened by the flock of birders trying to locate this bird this morning. It was just north of Rescue Marker 6 in the wrack with a larger group of semi-palmated and further up the beach western snowy plovers. I Was in a side by side vehicle and tried not to flush the flocks on my way north. On the way south I stopped to see if they had found the bird. Very striking dark black markings on face and neck with very orange bill. Contrasted nicely compared to all the other semi-palmated plovers around who were much more drab in color. Closer to the north end of the spit which would be a shorter walk if one has a kayak or canoe and can walk south from Tidelands Park corridor @ rescue marker 7. I cheated as I was working and happened upon the sighting . Happy coincidence."
